Matty Boy wrote:Maybe start with the guy who wrote Jeff Buckley's best song, Leonard Cohen. Jeff had a fantastic voice but his original songs were nothing special. Sorry if that pisses you off, but I'm not going to pretend that I think Jeff was some musical genious just because he's been overly glorified in death.
You don't need to tell me Leonard Cohen wrote 'Hallelujah', thanks very much.
Either way, it is definitely not the best song on Grace. Lyrically, maybe (Cohen was a poet, after all), but definitely not musically. And btw, do you not think Cohen's version of Hallelujah is musically quite horrendous to listen to?'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. He had a bed made of clay and the three kings bought him Gold, Frankenstein and Merv as presents.'

Had he lived he might have gone on to great things or he might have just faded away due to lacklustre songwriting.
He really reinvented that song though...he took it and made it his own.
He had such a haunting air of sadness to his music.
Like a great movie or beautiful piece of art, Grace is an album that is appreciated because it moves you....it makes you feel something.
PBM"We paced ourselves and we didn't rush through it and we tried to be as creative as our collective minds would let us be over some course of time instead of just trying to rush through a record"

Grace is pretty much the best place to start, although Vancouver from Sketches is possibly the most beautiful song i've ever heard.
I have all his released albums except Mystery White Boy - is that worth getting if i've got everything else? I don't know how different it'll be from Live a L'olympia and the Live at Sin-e sets...0 -
