he doesnt play the same as he used to on some songs (eg the less complicated intro to Rats now as opposed to back in the day)

but on some songs he's a fucking king at playing half chords over 2 or 3 strings and makes the songs heavy and funky at the same time, miles better than the album versions (Animal, Do The Evolution)

Inside Job has sweet bass. id like to see more of that. and the little songs he played on IIC (the background music throughout the dvd)
  • Anyone else think the Leash intro from this latest tour sort of suffers? Maybe 13 years of not playing it made Jeff rusty, or maybe it's just me.

hell yea. the bass line for inside job is great, it stands out so much, its not a generic bass line at all.

I kind of agree. We haven't heard anything as interesting as the Breath or Oceans bass work for some time. Oceans in particular is a masterpiece.

jeff's work speaks for itself. he is my favorite member of pearl jam by far, and here is why...

these are some songs jeff has penned:
    'pilate'
    'nothing as it seems'
    'other side'
    'gods dice'
    'sleight of hand'
    and of course...'nothingman'

all these songs are kick ass PJ songs...and everybody is right with inside job.

Jeff Ament is just the man, straight up.

yeah I know what your saying...pj should do a song like "The Real Me" by the who...which is basically a bass solo...jeff is already considered one of the best around (voted one of the top 10 by bass player magazine a few years back)...but he should solidify it.

  • I think it finally hit me the other day that JEFF is the HARDEST ROCKER in the band. Period.

Eddie used to be all over, and when they had Dave it made everyone seem crazy ... so i guess it was hard to see.

It sure does feel like Jeff has punk-afied his bass playing some over the past decade ...

THIS IS THE MOMENT JEFF OUT ROCKED HIMSELF ... at about the minute mark (1:06) ...

Lol. Now just go watch the whole video.
AWESOME! (especialy the "Rain" tag at the end)
    :D:D:D

So glad they play Why Go again these days!
An all-time favorite concert moment was Encore 1 from Nissan in 2003: 1 Do The Evolution, Spin The Black Circle, Blood, Why Go, Know Your Rights -- you could puke up blood just imagining rockin out to that!

    But yeah, JEFF ROCKS
    mmm. like butter.

Other Side is an Ament tune, a very soulful one. I agree ament is a great bass player, but also a good songwriter.

Also, Lowlight, Pilate, and Nothing As It Seems ... which to me were always real highlights.
    :D

Jeff songs add a dimension that would otherwise be lacking to the PJ experience.

    100% agreed.

I was stunned that even in Immagine in Cornice, when it was just he and Stone in a room, you could hardly hear him :(

Stone was just showing him a certain progression or a cue to a song. Pearl Jam i'm sure realizes his contributions to the band, they haven't had 6 bass players.
Also, he wrote "Help, help", didnt know that XD

that was just because stone was playing an acoustic and jeff was playing that ugly ass electric that wasn't plugged in.
