There's a pit member who is a massive fan. Expect his contributions sometime soon.

Just checking the one of 3 boards I visit and I saw this thread and I almost fell out of my chair.

Awesome that some folks here have found an interest in his music, I know I've tried to spread the word about his music. Great guy, great friend of mine, great musician, great activist and the best live performer/frontman other than Bono a idol of MF.

Just recieved his new album *All Rebel Rockers* and the first time through didn't quite like it. Then cleared my mind kept it open and LISTENED and I must say Michael Franti & SPEARHEAD have created another superb album. Not one of their best but certainly up there on the list of their studio album releases.

    Here's my list:

    1. YELL FIRE

    2. STAY HUMAN

    3. EVERYONE DESERVES MUSIC

    4. ALL REBEL ROCKERS

    5. CHOCOLATE SUPA HIGHWAY

    6. HOME

It's funny at this moment I was getting hotels in NYC for his shows in Time Square the Nokie Theatre November 21/22. On the 11/19 he'll be here at the 9:30 Club in DC and he and the band knows they're more than welcome to stop by my house for some drink and food.

The first time he has had a album break the top 40 with All Rebel Rockers and one of my favorite tracks is this one..Nobody Right, Nobody Wrong and this one Hey World (Don't Give Up) another version with of Hey World (Don't Give Up)

If you give it a chance get his music, it's lyrically powerful that much you can count on.

Anybody out there who can find it please post it on the album the damn print is sooo tiny it's hard to read it.

Thanks Mel. love those two also especially LK :)

In my community, we have only one theatre house. Because they need to stay in business, the owner's will limit movies appealing to children and family. A group of friends got together with one of the local churches to feature free movies that make a difference in the world. These wonderful people brought together, Michael Franti's " I know I'm not alone" with members of our community and local ministry who otherwise, might not have had exposure...

Then, they offered to show it at the local community college..

In my place of employ, I am not allowed to play music...But when my boss is gone, the ONE disc I can listen to over and over and over again is always One in your post Above!!!!!!

So much power when Love is contagious.

Michael Franti and Spearhead have always existed right outside the mainstream, which is a shame because Franti is the modern Bob Marley-a tag I don't throw around lightly. Over the last decade, Franti and his band Spearhead have continued to evolve and distinguish themselves by creating weighty music that matters in a forlornly world that embodies darkness at every corner. Beneath monolithic dance grooves and phoenix-like melodies are lyrics that excavate into the consciousness of the world. Franti and Spearhead picks up where Marley's legacy left off, modernizes it and embodies the spirit and soul of the music which is never more evident than on their latest album, All Rebel Rockers. Mining territory between Public Enemy and Bob Marley, Franti and Spearhead's music is out of frame; it isn't pop, reggae, hip-hop or rock but a meticulously melded collage of all of the aforementioned. They are a ferocious multi-musical hybrid who is unlike anything else on the current musical landscape. No topic goes unturned in their poignant lyrics; the world's addiction to oil, the corrupt music business, the environment, war and even the mundane drudgery that encompasses our lives. Franti wrestles with life's obstacles but ultimately finds a way to not only challenge your mind but move your body as well, a rare feat. The album's duality is a delicacy- socially charged lyrics paired with rupturing backbeats that wrap around your brain but captivates you like provocative pop.

While searching for lyrics I came across this review...Michael Franti and Spearhead - All Rebel Rockers Review

Were you in agreement with this review?

could be talking about me as I have attended 13 of his shows, the most I have attended for one musician or band. Plopped down quite a bit of money! Even got to meet Michael at a local cd store in 2003 and have a picture to go along with it.

Indeed he is the real deal. nothing fake about him. Doesnt wear shoes, expressing his distaste and disgust for the disparity between those who make shoes and those who wear them. He doesnt live in the hollywood hills in a mansion or in the hampton although with his tours and stuff he certainly is making some serious dough. He lives in one of the poorest neighborhoods in San Fran.

I would say my political outlook on life, my love of underground hip hop and slam poetry in some way is related to his music.

However, with my decision in 2006 to start turning off the tv and the news and not paying attention to activist causes, his music unfortunately has gathered alot of dust in my room. Have hardly listened to Yell Fire much as all and havent listened to All Rebel Rockers at all. I am sure I will come back to his music at some point.

He just seems like a genuine guy. Who actually means it when he asks "How ya Feelin?" 10 times per gig!

ALL REBEL ROCKERS here you can give a listen to some of the tracks from this album and double click and some may show a video to that song.

    Nobody Wrong, Nobody Right

They say you got to chose your side and, when its done.
    Nobody right, nobody wrong.
It ended in a great big fight and, when its done.
    Nobody right, nobody wrong.
Conflict each and every day, at home and in the streets, and in my soul every way.
Its hard to keep the faith, when I feels so far away.
Times i feel connected, times I'm runnin' away.
But Whoa Whoa, Cant you see, all the sickness, hunger, and poverty.
War on the land and war on the seas.
Whoa, War is a painful thing.
One argument that none of us can hide, is the one thats ragin down deep inside.
Tryin' to make a point, or have the last word.
But most the time people just tryin to be heard.

They say you got to chose your side and, when its done.
    Nobody right, nobody wrong.
It ended in a great big fight and, when its done.
    Nobody right, nobody wrong.

But how many people never eva broke a rule.
And how many people tryin to get their kids to school
And how many people prayin they only find a job.
And how many poeple are afraid of gettin robbed.
    Whoa Whoa, nobody knows.
And whoa whoa, only god knows.
Numbers escalate, wall street, crime rate.
From the Bahgdad streets, to my city by the bay.

Hey they say you got to chose your side and, when its done.
    Nobody right, nobody wrong.
It ended in a great big fight and, when its done.
    Nobody right, nobody wrong.

And I say, can you say what you mean?
And can you mean what you mean what you say?
And can you say what you mean?
And can you mean what you mean what you say?
And can you say what you mean?
Every single day? Whoa, whoa, whoa.

Reach out a hand to somebody who needs a hand.
And reach out a heart to somebody torn apart.
Its hard, this livin, this life we've been given.
Locked in your soul, or locked up in prison.
Remember you have to reach high to be risen.
The day you let go is the day you are forgiven.

So they say you got to chose your side and, when its done.
    Nobody right, nobody wrong.
    Nobody right now.
    Nobody right, nobody wrong.
    Nobody right, nobody wrong.
And I say, one man got a jet fighter, and the other got a song.
    Nobody right, nobody wrong.

    Hey World (Remote Control Version)

Hey world, you know you got to put up a fight
Hey world, you rumble in the jungle tonight
Hey world, keep bringing it the rest of your life
You got to put up a fight.

Hey world, you know you got to put up a fight
Hey world, you rumble in the jungle tonight
Hey world, you're running for the rest of your life
You got to put up a fight.

    BOOM BOOM

There's a battle going on in this earth
everyday. Work, school, death, and birth.
There are 6 billion people on this earth,
can you tell me what every single life is worth?

Toke a spliff, look around and see history.
My weapon and my method is no mystery.
I didn't come here to chill. I came here to rock,
to smash the empire with my boom-box.

You got to let go of remote control!

Hey world, you know you got to put up a fight
Hey world, you rumble in the jungle tonight
Hey world, keep bringing it the rest of your life
You got to put up a fight.

Hey world, you know you got to put up a fight
Hey world, you rumble in the jungle tonight
Hey world, keep bringing it the rest of your life
You got to put up a fight.

You know you got to put up a fight.
On a universal mission like a meteorite.
Satellite, laser beam with you in their sights.
And with the patriot act they took all your right.

Don't ever doubt the power of just one mind.
Or the world-wide power of just one rhyme.
Don't ever doubt the force of the bassline.
Or a record gone round to burn the house down.

(You got to let go of remote control.)

Hey world, you know you got to put up a fight
Hey world, you rumble in the jungle tonight
Hey world, keep bringing it the rest of your life
You got to put up a fight.

    (All rebel rockers!)

There's a bullet with your name, it's a sign of the times.
It takes nine hundred ninety nine criminal minds.
You got to let go of remote control.
You got to let go of remote control!

Hey world, you know you got to put up a fight
Hey world, you rumble in the jungle tonight
Hey world, keep bringing it the rest of your life
You got to put up a fight.

I've just gotten into Franti myself after reading an article about him in Common Ground, and I'll be seeing him in about a month. I'm hooked on him! The music itself, the hiphop, is not my thing, but his messages are just spot on for me, I love what he has to say. Yell Fire is an incredible album, I got it at the same time as Tone and I came to like Franti a lot easier than my friend, Ament. (don't worry, Jeff, I came around, you album is great too, just took a little longer.) ;)
