[EDIT: The title of the thread should be 'Your favorite riffs of all time']

In my opinion, of course:

Slash - Sweet Child O' Mine, Mr. Brownstone, Coma, Estranged
Jimmy Page - Whole Lotta Love, Communication Breakdown, Kashmir
Stone Gossard - Alive
Neil Young - Rockin' in the Free World, Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black), Danger Bird
Kim Thayil - Loud Love, Fresh Tendrils
Mike McCready (?) - I Don't Know Anything
Andrew Stockdale - White Unicorn
Tony Iommi - Iron Man
Dean DeLeo - Plush, Sex Type Thing
Tom Morello - Bombtrack, Killing in the Name, Wake Up, Guerrila Radio, Bulls on Parade, Moth

That's just off the top of my head... I'll probably add more later. Your turn...

Aw man, you are just winding me up now !!
To even think of posting a list like this with nothing from Metallica or Rolling STones, but including Wolfmother is blasphemy.
Maybe "Greatest Riffs from the Last Five Minutes "...............

HOw about I add "The Boys are Back in Town", Thin Lizzy, just to show I'm not totally one-eyed ?????
Or, Sweet Home Alabama, or Bad to the Bone or La Grange............
Music is not a competetion.
• Jerry Cantrell - Facelift, Sap, Dirt, Jar of Flies, Tripod, and the non album tracks ;)

Specifically though:

Frogs
Died
We Die Young
Man in the Box
Nutshell
Whale and Wasp
Heaven Beside You
What the Hell Have I?
Rooster
Junkhead
Sea of Sorrow
It Ain't Like That

...and hats off to Layne for Angry Chair.

Fuck, all of 'em :D

I can't stand Metallica, and I'm really not a fan of the Stones. I put Wolfmother on there just to mix things up a bit. The chorus to White Unicorn is a pretty sweet riff, you have to admit.

These are just my favorite. It's all a matter of taste. :D

Fair enough, so what you really meant, was, "favourite guitar riffs of all time". Haven't listened to Wofmother in a while, but yeah, they have some good riffs.
I think trying to rate one against the other is a waste of time, cos like the sig says,.........................................it's not a competition !!
Should have said though, that I thought your selection was pretty good, esp Sweet Child, I mean how timeless is that, and Alive of course, and Killing in the Name.

How about No Quarter ?????
Music is not a competetion.
• Jimmy Page - pretty much everything but we'll narrow it down to The Rover, When the Levee Breaks, Sick Again, and How Many More Times

Tom Morello - every riff on the first Rage album

Paul McCartney - Helter Skelter (the riffs during the verses, not the intro so much) John and George play guitars on this too. they have like four guitar tracks and two bass tracks going on for this one

Syd Barrett - Interstellar Overdrive

Stone Gossard - Do the Evolution (studio), Alive, Satan's Bed

Slash - My Michele, Rocket Queen, Mr. Brownstone

Iron Maiden - Mother Russia

Robby Krieger - Roadhouse Blues

Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child

Kurt Cobain - Blew

so many more but i'm too lazy to name them

I can't believe no one mentioned this, but Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple. Fucking classic. That's the one that always kind of stands out for me as just an awesome riff. Lots by Sabbath, AC/DC, Zeppelin, etc.
you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.

Can't You Hear Me Knockin'
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

• I'm not sure if you'd call these "riffs" per se..

But Cherub rock, Today, and Soma (siamese dream - smashing pumpkins) have 3 of the best "riffs" of the era... Graceful power,.. frail beauty,.. and haunting hypnotic meandering (did that make any sense?... i don't care..) respectfully.

"Danger Bird" has always been one of my favorites from Neil :). The 12 minute version from "Year of the Horse" is spectacular.

J Mascis (dinosaur jr)- out there

That song kills me. That opening riff is one of my favorites ever. The solo ain't too shaby either.

Neil Young- Hey Hey My My

The riff is good i might like the overall tone more though so thick and edgy.
