Maktub - Start it Over

So I'm a year behind on this, but Maktub's Start it Over, which was funded entirely by their fans and written and recorded in about 6-days (almost all 1st live takes), is disgustingly incredible. I strongly advise you to head over to maktub.com or Kufala's website and pick this motherfucker up. Thaddeus and company have created a masterpiece.
Gold.
Gold.

They are definitely one of my favorite bands. I was one who contributed $50 to fund Start it Over. They had 200 people send in $50, and used the $10,000 for recording and mixing. A pretty cool concept. They had talked about doing for the album they're working on currently, but so far no news about that.
Yeah he is! Oddly, I'm not so crazy about Say What You Mean, but at the same time, being pretty new to the band, I've only listened to SWYM once so far. I do like Khronos quite a bit and will be listening to Subtle Ways tonight! I decided to check them out more bc of all the work Thaddeus does with Shawn Smith, and then Watts blew me away!
That's awesome that you helped fund it! It's def a cool concept! Do you know what other projects the guys are involved in (besides Shawn collabos/Forever Breakers)?

They've all been kind of doing their own thing. Daniel, the keyboardist/guitaris, works full-time at a tech company. At this point he seems to be the glue that keeps Maktub together, such as it is. Davis Martin runs the Seattle Drum School, and is the drum instructor at Rock School in Seattle, and Thaddeus Turner is also an instructor at Rock School. Thaddeus contributed early on in Stone & Shawn's band Brad, which you know and also plays on Shawn's latest masterpiece. He also used to play a lot around town with some bluesy, jazzy projects but I haven't seen him lately. I know he was playing with Cherrywine and with a woman named Shawna Locey, but I haven't heard much lately. Kevin moved down to AZ, but I heard he might be moving back, so I don't know what he's up to, either. Reggie has his improv/comedy thing going, and I think lives in NYC at this point.
I would love to see these guys get passionate about really being a band again, but I think when Reggie left to pursue his dream in NYC it pretty much ended the full-time band gig. I still keep my fingers crossed.
Yeah, I know Daniel is manning the website for them. Thad recorded with Cherrywine - I just don't know if they're even active anymore. I was pretty disappointed with that record though :(
His contributions to Shawn's records and Brad were awesome...he also recorded with Shawn as Forever Breakers, and they released 4 songs via Myspace, but that seemed to quiet down very quickly too.
You know, until recently, I'd never heard more than a few Maktub songs, and what I initially heard was bc of Steve Fisk, but I'm so glad I decided to pick up their records...great music! I really hope they decide to get back together to record again. Would you happen to have any rarities? I know there were a couple of tracks from the Japanese releases...up for a trade or something?

I have never been able to get ahold of their rarities, unfortunately. You provided a link to their live stuff. I think at least one of those recordings is mine. But I don't have any of the bonus tracks. I had completely forgotten about that.
When you check out Khronos, make sure you grab their original release rather than the Velour label re-release. The original has an extra song called Motherfucker that Velour chose not to include.
Yep, yep - I actually had picked up both versions. They're running a great special on their website:
A 3-pack bundle for only $20: Subtle Ways, Khronos & Say What You Mean
Add Start it Over and the original version of Khronos, with free shipping...and you get all 5 cd's for $44! Unbeatable deal!
