Gutter Twins...TONIGHT!

edited November 2008 in Other Music
Anyone here gonna be there? Scott Ford said there won't be anymore shows for quite some time after they finish up these last couple of gigs, so...get your GT's on now!

I still have one of LiveNation promo tix available...it was only $10 (plus TM fees) for the same general admission ticket everyone else buys. So anyone looking to go on the cheap, hit me up.

After Hours and Wild Light opening!

Jealous. I really wanted to catch one of these shows:(

Full report of the shows (with pictures) would be much appreciated!

Enjoy, I'm sure it'll be great. For various reasons, I couldn't catch them on their UK tour a few months ago so I'm kind of hoping for a few shows next year (although that seems unlikely...).

You never know...they all have different projects going next year, but I'm hoping for some sort of end of '09 mini-tour. Should be an exciting year though with Mark's projects with Soulsavers and Isobell Campbell, Jeff's new band, Jerusalem, and of course, hopefully some new Twilight Singers from Greg!

I swear they are the hardest working men in music. I love it!!
  • Wow. Wow. Just...wow. Just before the band came out, I noticed that on the left side of the stage by Jeff's spot, they had a pro-cam. Then the band pulled off one of the finest performances I've heard from them (bootlegs and all that)! I was absolutely captivated from start to finish. The setlist was incredible...I was gonna grab the setlist by Greg's piano after the show, but some shy guy's girlfriend peeled it off the floor for him first (you here shy guy?). So I'll have to depend on someone else to post it.

A lot of people talk about Greg's voice either being totally on or totally off, and tonight he was ON FIRE. I'm glad my wife couldn't make it, because between Greg's coolness and Mark's voice, I'd have lost her tonight :( On my way out of the venue, I heard two girls talking about the sexiness of his voice. Seriously though, this is the greatest pairing of all time.

Being at this show makes me even sadder that I missed the NY show earlier in the year, but I'll never make that mistake again. I just hope that if there's a live release planned, it's this show in its entirety bc I promise you - each and every one of you - that you won't believe your ears.

I only caught 4 songs from After Hours, but they were great too! Terrific musicianship and performance. Their bassist has a great stage presence, and it was very cool how most of them were circulating through the audience during that "18th century heavy metal song."

I hope someone posts a good review of the show...like a real review I mean.

PS - the camera guy(s) were moving all around the stage, getting some cool looking angles, so I'm really holding out hope for a release!

Ohhhhhh..... A DVD would be sweet! I've been spinning Saturnalia non-stop recently.

Great to hear the show was good! I agree, Mark Lanegan has easily got one of the best voices in rock.

I could have sworn Scott Ford said on his radio show one day that they would be filming a live DVD at the east coast shows to be released before christmas. I saw them back in March, and they were amazing, but from what I hear, the shows just keep getting better. I would kill for a DVD.

No doubt! You know what's weird? For almost any singer, when they just stand in one place and do a few little movements, they just have zero stage presence and it kills everything...but the way Mark stands there, eyes closed, one hand on the mic and the other on the mic stand, in the same position all night long, matched with the intensity on his face...talk about stage presence! But then add to that Greg being the polar opposite...smiling, engaging the crowd, walking all over the stage...even dancing...there's just nothing like the GT's.

Oh that's great news! I didn't know he spoke about it on the show...last night was perfect so it's a great choice for release. The only thing that was weird was the levels for the encore seemed significantly higher than the bulk of the show...sounded slightly distorted...but I assume that's only on the output and it should be perfectly fine on the actual recording.

    I noticed that too.

I was at both Philly and Brooklyn. Both were excellent shows! Mark's vocals were noticeably louder last night, which was a plus. The crowd was nuts in Brooklyn. Everyone around me was jumping and singing along with Down The Line. I'm sad this is the end of the line for now, but last night felt like such a celebration.

Honestly, as much as I'm a big Mark fan, GT has turned me into a huge Twilight Singers fan. Greg has so much charisma.

If anyone is going to the remaining two shows, get there early enough for the Afterhours! They are phenomenal.
  • oh man... i would love to be on the east coast for this one.

that show at the warsaw was M A ZING! i could not believe how tiny of a venue it was. i was happy it was so small but also saddened that they are not as popular as they should be.

everything they played had so much intensity. lanegan looked like he was in a trance the whole night clinging to the microphone as if it were a crutch. greg dulli is awesome too. i just got into his stuff because of the gutter twins and i am going to have to check out the twilight singers now.

best concert i have seen in a while. i was more into this show than the last pj show i was at.

Check out Blackberry Belle, Powder Burns and A Stitch in Time EP to start with...these better represent the current era of Twilight and what formed Gutter Twins, so you'd probably like these best. Lanegan appears on Blackberry Belle and A Stitch in Time (he's also on She Loves You, but that's a cover album better left for later).

For more Twilight material, check out my collection/discography: http://www.sscollective.net/twins

    ENJOY!

  • That's one cool page on the Gutter Twins you have. Thanks for the review, that seems to be a really enjoyable show.

Similar to PJ Garden, I would love to see a DVD from them. I've now got a DVD player (not one attached to a computer) and would like some good DVDs.
    Looking forward to seeing one.

THANKS!!! :) I really think we'll see a dvd because they've made it very clear now that this will be the last show for quite some time. We'll need something to hold us over next year while they're working on all their other projects!

More GT dates except these are stripped down shows. Check this out. The setlist will be interesting to see. They say they will play songs neither have played in a really long time. God I wish I lived in Europe.... :(

And to top it off, a new Lanegan solo record :)
