Ive been considering buying the Mad Season cd, but i thought i would listen to some others opinions on it before i did. So what do you guys think of it?

It is one of the best supergroup side projects out there. Get the album, you won't regret it. Wake up will leave you speechless... the most haunting deep and Personal song I have ever heard Layne sing, and I love it. Not a bad track on the album... it's worth buying... awesome album.... you'll be glad you bought it.
i'm sure most of the people here will say its "awesome", but its just an average record. if no one knew who mccready/staley were, this album would never be mentioned.
just download it so you dont have to spend the $

id not say it's average. maybe it's not awesome, but it's probably the strongest side project ive ever heard. it's the first time you get to hear mike really wail and layne's vocals are chilling.

i consider myself unbiased and i say it is pretty awesome. it shits on anything else Lane did, his career highlight imo.

FOR THE RECORD, when this album was first released I wasn't nearly the AIC fan that I became, so Layne being on it was no big deal to me. Also at the time, I didn't necessarily buy just any side project from Pearl Jam members, so the fact that McCready was on it did nothing for me except open me up to listening. And like MOST great music, MOST people aren't even aware of its existence because they never get exposed to it.
The first time I got a listen to parts of the album, I wasn't sure how I felt about it...then a few days later I found it used (like a week after release) for a great price, listened to the entire album and was blown away.
Like any album, there are weaker moments, but it's never weak. And unlike most albums, the stronger tracks are INCREDIBLE. And as mentioned by someone earlier, "Wake Up" alone is worth the price of admission.
Forget that this is a side project and let it stand on its own merit. Mad Season was a great band and could have been more than a one-off, just like Brad became.

thats a big stretch. i'd even put brad ahead of mad season.
well, i guess there's the travelling willbury's. but i think it's better than brad. i liked satchel better than brad. brad was ok, but it didnt have the atmosphere of mad season, which is a haunting record.
definitely get it. it's worth it. i haven't listened to it in a long time. i think i might have to dust off the disc and give it some play time tomorrow.
for anybody into AIC and the others its worth hearing. I never thought of it as a classic, has some good songs and some not so good. Old Lanegan makes an appearance, thats why I eventually forked out for it

i guarantee less than 5% of people who own this record bought it when it came out.
the album is pretty much weak all around. all the songs sound incomplete or too mish-mosh for me. add to that, i've never been a fan of staley's vocals.

If you've never been a fan of staley's vocals and the feel of the album isn't right for you what makes you think your opinion could possibly be unbiased?
I think this guy wanted to know what people who didn't have predisposed animosity for the record thought of it.
"So, you must really love Led Zeppelin. That’s the oldest shirt I’ve ever seen on someone who wasn’t a bum."
"Hey, if God didn’t want me to wear it so much, he wouldn’t have made them rock so hard."

i'm willing to overlook so-so vocals if it fits the music (see: incubus), but it doesnt here.

I bought it used about a month ago, and it kicks ass.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
add to that, i've never been a fan of staley's vocals.
So let me get this straight...the original poster shouldn't put a lot of stock into people's opinions because YOU ASSUME that most of the respondants will be biased since they just love Staley and McCready...........yet YOU have actually stated that you DON"T LIKE Staley, which means you too listened with a bias to start.
If you don't like the album, that's cool, and you can tell the original poster why...but to pretend that YOU have some superior opinion because you share a DIFFERENT BIAS than the majority is a little silly.

i'm just saying why i dont like it. i dont care if he buys 10 copies or none. im not saying my opinion is superior to anyones. listen to nickelback and rave about it for all i care.
and i got this album when it came out, when staleys vocals werent as bad as they eventually got, so i listened to it without bias from the start. i just thought it was an average record back then, and it certainly is now.

That's fair enough. It was just the way you prefaced it earlier that sort of took away from your opinion because you justified your opinion by putting down others.
If I really must listen to Nickleback though, can I rant about it instead?
