RHCP - Tell Me Baby new single?

edited August 2006 in Other Music
Why the heck would they release this as their second single? I find it to be such a lame song. Wet Sand or Snow would make a lot more sense to me. Or pretty much any other song.

Tell Me Baby is perfect as a single, Wet Sand no I dont want, or see that to be a single, I will bet money that Desecration Smile, 21st Century or Charlie is the next single as these were the songs they were using to promote the album before it was released.

  • The more I like a song the less I want it to be released as a single.

I think its a great song but I dont like when bands release two songs that are based on relatively the same idea back to back as singles...The Chilis are doing, U2 did it with "Vertigo" and "All Because of You"....I would have liked to see the Chilis mix it up this time around with something like "Snow" or "Desecration Smile"...

As for "not wanting something to be a single because you like it..." honestly, nobody's forcing you to watch MTV or listen to the radio...I pretty much avoid it and if I wear out a song it's my own fault usually, not because I heard it too many times on the radio.
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

As long as I don't listen to a song more than once in a day, I don't "wear it out". I just don't like plastics having access to songs they only pretend to like because it's fashionable to do so.

Yeah I hear ya, but that has always gone on and always will...its just human nature i guess...you got people who are really into music and then you got the mass of posers in my generation that feel the need to attach themselves to bands as some sort of statement rather than musical taste

Most bands have no control over what gets released as a single. Some bands don't even have control over their artwork.

I love this single but I don't care what they release next. I'm not into buying them, only albums.

Eh I think they do have some say in the singles-especially since the Peppers are such an established and successful group....Maybe upstarts would have more trouble controlling these things, but I doubt the Peppers do

If the Peppers are choosing these singles, then they suck harder than I ever imagined. Trust me, they might say "we'd like "song x" to be the single", but at the end of the day, when it's the label that stands to lose the $$ on a flopped album, what the band wants is not the issue.

The label owns the masters. Hell, for the most part they even pick the songs that go on the record. Artistic freedom is not a surplus commodity on a major.

    Charlie is an obvious choice

Wet Sand is sacred, by far my favourite off a great album.

It seemed wierd to me too, snow and wet sand are better choices, but I think it works somehow.

i knew this single was gonna be Tell Me Baby because they were really into it at some MTV concert and i think desecration smile will be next too. i hope so because then they'd definitly play it live when i see them. that's one of my top three (maybe #1) on stadium arcadium.

  • If they had used another song from CD1 it might have made CD2 look inferior in some way, as if it was an album of B-sides or filler tracks. Tell Me Baby is probably the most obvious choice for a single from CD2, along with Desecration Smile. Its also one of my favourites on the album, I cant help but sing along to the chorus! IMO this is the best album they've ever come up with and they could easily be another 5 or 6 singles from both Cds. Im lovin this album!

TMB is that fun summer song. Warner Bros. knows how to position these songs and TMB has single written all over it. If it were my choice I'd throw out the 6 minute Turn It Again. That song (especially Frusciante at the end) is all kinds of good....or Animal Bar.

Hard to Concentrate or Animal Bar (Especially guitar in both songs!)
