read the rolling stone article on these guys. great instrumental listening. DL a few songs off their first album (though they were hard to find). caught some of their Conan O'Brien performance. any reflections on their work?

  • They're awesome... I had heard of them for a while had but never checked them out. Then a few years ago I saw the movie "Friday Night Lights" and thought the music was amazing and totally made the movie. When I checked the credits and saw it was them I immediately got everything they had put out.

Are you too good to tango with the poor poor boys?
  • Anyone else going to see these guys in Toronto tonight? I can't wait!

I have How strange, Innocence and very good it is too. I think the 2 cd version of the new album is already available because I'm pretty sure I saw it in hmv the other day.

These guys rock. The song that most blows me away is "Catastrophe". That song rawks my socks.

I just "discovered" them. You can get some of their stuff on e-music. They have some insanely long songs. I have liked what I have heard to this point

    Yep. Post-rock rules.

Further to my Mono recommendation, also check out Pelican and the legendary Godspeed You! Black Emperor too.

  • One of the most disappointing nights of my life ever happened last night.

I had tickets to see these guys in Toronto. My friend deduced that because there were two opening bands, they wouldn't take the stage until about midnight. I didn't really agree, but figured if anything we'd only miss the beginning.

We showup just after midnight (literally about 12:02) and we only got to see the last 30 seconds of the last song of the night. And that 30 seconds was phenomenal.

I still can't believe I missed the whole fackin' show!

my god, that really sucks. I think I'd probably cry if that happened to me :) to whoever mentioned Godspeed You! Black Emperor, they are just totally stunning. Lift yr skinny fists like antennas to heaven is just beautiful.

Damn! I've been to hundreds of shows and I can only recall one where a band has played after midnight (ISIS @ Roadhouse in Manchester 2003, fact-fiends). Lots of people had left before then, I assume to catch buses/trains home and missed a killer set (featuring the lady from 27 on vocals on that track off Celestial).

Never trust anyone who says shows start late or want to stay in a pub until the main band comes on!

I like Mono better. There's another post-rock group called "Saxon Shore" which sounds similar to Explosions in the Sky. Be sure to check them out.

A lot of people mention Saxon Shore but i checked them out and couldn't really get in to it. It sounded a bit like an adult contemporary Post Rock record to me.

Maybe i'll have to check it out again.

yeah they are fucking amazing. I have seen them twice since the post started....a sonic bombardment.

They do not disappoint other than playing too short of a set.

Worth a try for anyone who likes post-rock/instrumental rock

    Amazing songs
