Love this album, listening to Come out and Play. awesome!!!

"Like the latest fashion
Like a spreading disease
The kid`s are strapin`on their way to the classroom
Getting weapons with the greatest of ease
The gangs stake their own campus locale
And if they catch you slippin` then it`s all over pal
If one guy`s colors and the others don`t mix
They`re gonna bash it up
Hey -man you talkin`back to me?
Take him out
You gotta keep `em seperated
Hey-man you disrespecting me?
Take him out
You gotta keep `em seperated
Hey they don`t pay no mind
If you`re under 18 you won`t be doing any time
Hey come out and play
By the time you hear the siren
It`s already too late
One goes to the morgue and the other to jail
One guy`s wasted and the other`s a waste
It goes down the same as the thousands before
No one`s getting smarter
No one`s learning to score
Your never ending spree of death and violence and hate
Is gonna tie your own rope"
"Don't let the darkness eat you up..."

i remember buying this record BEFORE the video hit MTV.... all those years ago in my bedroom listening to Matt Chord on WMMR, Philadelphia. think the show was called Planet M. heard lots of good stuff there.... AIC "Killing Yourself", "Crazy Mary", "Dock Of THe Bay"-PJ, about half of Vitalogy before it was released (Spin, Tremor, Nothingman, Not For You, Corduroy), Phish, Oingo Boingo, STP, Green Day, .... great times. Glory Days.
  • i agree!

offspring got me into rock music when i was twelve...ok, it was americana, has some really stupid songs on it, but i bought the older albums and now i still listen to smash

come out and play is really cool and gotta get away and even self esteem...it's not the most innovative album in music history but a part of my youth

my fav offspring album is their first (i think from 1989), it's melodic but not that poppy and more dirty and they had better lyrics: ;)

kill the president...a leader's not the center of democracy

    and some anti-war songs

    and crossroads, their best song
"now i've got room to spread my wings and my messages of love...yeah love was my drug but that's not what i died of"

"Come Out and Play" is my least favorite track on the album now, it was so overplayed. Still a very, very good album, I listen to it a lot more than most of the other early 90s alt-rock albums(like "Dookie").

I actually bought this and "Dookie" at the same time and it took me about 8 years to realize "Smash" was the better album. Two of the first CDs I ever owned.

Smash totally rocked. I listened to that not to long ago actually. I also really liked the follow up album Ixnay on the Hombre.

Americana was a huge dissapointment. a terrible album overall.

Then I just quit listening to Offspring. I should revisit them though.

Used to love that album but its grown quite stale for me. I cant stand the singers voice anymore and they are one of the biggest embarrassments ever to music for what they evolved into.
