Hey I'm trying to locate a song I heard while at a department store a few months ago - it has been stuck in my head ever since.
Part of me wants to say that its a BEN HARPER song but i can't find any of his songs that sound like it.

OK it was a soft slow song that talked about "going to alaska " I thought it was called I'm going to Alaska but i can't find anything out about it when i do searches online. I am dying to find out the name of this song and who sings it - Please fans help me out onthis one - i still think it has some connection to Ben Harper or someone who sounds alot like him.

Thanks
Rob

City And Color - Comin Home....nice little acoustic ditty, maybe?????

Well I’ve been down to Georgia
I’ve seen the streets in the west
I’ve driven down the 90, hell I’ve seen America’s best
I’ve been through the Rockies, I’ve seen Saskatoon
I’ve driven down the highway 1, I just hope that I’d see you soon

Cause I’m coming home, I’m coming home

I’ve never been to Alaska, but I can tell you this
I’ve been to Lincoln, Nebraska and hell you know it aint worth shit
I’ve been through Nova Scotia, Sydney to Halifax
I’ll never take any pictures cause I know I’ll just be right back

Cause I’m coming home, I’m coming home

I’ve seen palaces in London; I’ve seen a castle in Wales
But I’d rather wake up beside you and breathe that ol ’familiar smell
I never thought you could leave me, I figured I was the one
But I understand your sadness, so I guess I should just hold my tongue

But I’m coming home, I’m coming home

I know we’re takin’ chances, you told me life was a risk
But I have just one last question…
Will it be my heart or will it be his?

Coming home , I’m coming home
In my world everyone is a pony,
and they all eat rainbows and pooh butterflies!
  • Could be the Mountain Goats. Folky, lo-fi rock from the 90s...

The jacaranda are wet with color,
and the heat is a great paint brush, lending color to our lives,
and to the air, and to out faces; but I'm going to Alaska
where there's snow to suck the sound out from the air.

    Up, yes, in the branches,
    the purple blossoms, go pale at the edges;
there is meanining in the shifting of the sap, and I see in them traces
of last year, but then they hadn't grown so strong,
and their limbs were more like wires. Now they are cables.
thick and alive with alien electricity, and I am going to Alaska,
where you can go blind just by looking at the ground,
where fat is eaten by itself
just to keep the body warm.

Because from where we are now, it seems, really,
    that everything is growing in a thousand different ways;
that the soil is soaked through with old blood and with relatives
who were buried here, or close to here, and they are giving rise
to what is happening. Or can you tell me otherwise?
I am going to Alaska, where the animals can kill you,
but they do so in silence, as though if no-one hears them,
then it really won't matter. I am going to Alaska.
They tell me that it's perfect for my purposes.

  • I'd suggest the Sun Kil Moon cover of Trucker's Atlas, but it seems unlikely a department store would be playing a song with the lyrics "scot fuckin' free".
