my wife & i are heading down I-35 to Austin in a few hours..is anyone else going? do you all have any suggestions on who to check out? we've already made a schedule, but there are quite a few bands that we aren't familiar with.

we've been looking forward to this since we left ACL last year:).

If you can wake up early go tomorrow to the Four Seasons Hotel, they do a live broadcast from 6 to 10 am, it's a $5.00 donation to the Children Cancer Society, they have pastries, breakfast tacos and coffee. And tomorrow they will have six bands playing, I went this morning and had a blast.

    hiya.
we're wiped! we went & saw the Heartless Bastards after-show last night & it was amazing. we dragged ourselves into our hotel at around 3am. their new songs blew me away & we were able to get front row tix & chat with the band afterwards. i bought a limited edition poster & they were all nice enough to sign it! very cool people...very awesome sounds.

we also saw: what made milwaukee famous, jacob dylan (new stuff was pretty good!), n.e.r.d., m. ward, jenny lewis (awesome!!) & the swell season. also, we saw about 20 minutes of the mars volta's set & it was quite good. then we took off to get good seats for the h. bastards.

    off we go again...see ya!

    wow.

it was awesome--we had such a great time! i have no idea how many bands we saw/heard, but it made for an amazing vacation! we're already looking into hotels for next year! (which is tentatively set for the 2nd weekend in October, which will make it much cooler)

highlights for me: m. ward, jenny lewis, sharon jones & the dapkings, beck, nakia & his southern cousins, iron & wine, heartless bastards (twice!), and the raconteurs.

the raconteurs were flat-out amazing. apparently, jack white has a severely slipped disc in his back and he was in a lot of pain. but he sucked it up and pushed through. looks like he's going to be out of commission for a little while, though.

we left after the raconteurs---deciding to not stick around for the foo fighters. we had a late drive back to Waco ahead of us & both had class/work the next day.

i highly recommend this festival. great people, yummy (& cheap!) food/drink, and ALL kinds of music.

who knows??? maybe next year, those Pearl Jam rumors will become a reality!!! ;)

Man, I hate you missed Foo Fighters! They were great, played over an hour then came back out and did a long encore. Dave Grohl said "You guys just don't wanna go home! You're gonna be stuck in traffic for 4 hours anyway. Next time bring a joint!"

Great festival, I saw a real variety of performers as I tried to get around as much as I could. The Steps (young guys, winners of The Sound & the Jury competition and they really rocked), Rodney Crowell, Jakob Dylan, Gogol Bordello (did NOT expect to get into gypsy punk as much as I did), David Byrne, Alejandro Escovedo, Mars Volta, Manu Chao, We Go to 11, Old 97's, The Fratellis, The Lee Boys, Drive-By Truckers, Robert Earl Keen (different set from last year), John Fogerty, The Black Keys, Roky Erickson, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss (I opted for the buzzed about duo over Beck on the theory that it was a one-shot deal and I can see Beck again), Abigail Washburn & the Sparrow Quartet featuring Bela Fleck, Octopus Project (yawn), Adele, Gillian Welch, Shooter Jennings, Gnarls Barkley. I also caught a couple of songs from Flyleaf, who get my vote as the worst act of the festival. I saw short performances from other artists. These are the ones that I really remember.

My husband and the friends we were with all kind of split up each day and saw different artists so I heard rave reviews about Iron & Wine, Nicole Atkins & the Sea, Joe Bonamassa and White Denim. With the 5 of us we still didn't make it to all the acts.

The weather was warm but not nearly as hot as last year and in the evening it was cool and pleasant. This is a great festival, really a bargain for the price.

Yeah, it was tough finding a shady spot for our base camp every day! Also, I have blisters on my blisters from so much walking. I would be thrilled beyond belief to have PJ there next year. Will keep hoping!
