im surprised nobodys mentioned the Smashing Pumpkins reunion, but i agree with the points just above about peoples intentions etc, and that the name is just semantics.

i think that the "celebration of music" slant on it is hugely important here too...AIC & Blind Melon still make a clear effort to pay tribute to Staley & Hoon in their live shows now, and Queen want to play their music to the fans and all three have found very capable replacement singers....

...BUT there are some bands such as The Doors where the issue becomes a bit fucked up by inner fighting...Manzarek, Kreiger & Densmore with a new singer - i can take that as the Doors....but then they refuse to let Densmore be involved, flesh out the live band with session musicians, and get a singer who butchers the songs live (Astbury).....that shit aint the Doors....
then again, Morrison used to butcher the songs live too....

    :)

That is kind of awesome to be honest. I still don't think I could do it though. As for the Nutshell thing, yes. I have sat in the dark in the darkest mood of my life listening to that song. It's not something I want to repeat but I don't think I could go and see another singer doing it with Alice, even for an uplifting experience rather than a depressing one. DuVall does a good job from videos that I have seen. If I saw Aaron Lewis or that guy from Seether singing it, I'd probably punch them out.

Yeah it really is difficult to gauge people's intentions, but I think it's safe to say that Cantrell and the guys were probably more stringent in deciding on a replacement than any of us could be. You know it must be pretty difficult for them to hear another singer sing their friend's words too - which speaks volumes for their respect for DuVall.

Yeah I don't care much for Aaron Lewis or the Seether guy either. Probably because I'm not much of a fan of their music with their own bands. I think Aaron Lewis can sing well, and on a technical basis I think he can sing AIC songs fairly well, cause he has a similar tone and range. But, I just don't find his emotions to be that convincing, if that makes sense? In all honesty, he's probably a nice guy and just as big a fan of AIC as the rest of us though.
