Good call! Both of those records are fantastic. As for the new album, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna love it, and the only song I've heard so far is "What Light". My favorite Wilco record is always the newest one.
I saw a few of the shows over the past year or so and they had been
playing a few of the new tunes (ie. Impossible Germany etc...)
and the new band really just seemed to be coming into their own
and it really seems like a great time for the band.
Then I heard "What Light" which is excellent and was incredibly psyched.
"What Light" almost sounds as if Jeff is embracing a bit of the old
Uncle Tupelo style that he had seemed to have left to Jay Ferrar
over the past few years. But with the band now just clicking
with Glenn on Drums and Nels on Guitar etc...
maybe my expectations have been so high that I need to chill,
take a step back and figure this all out, but "What Light"
has been about the only song that has really jumped out at me
on the first several spins.
I'm wondering if something disruptive has happened in Jeff's life.
I hope I'm just completely misreading this at first glance but
much of the lyrical content seems to be very down and depressing
and in reference to broken relationships etc...
And in taking a page out of the Pearl Jam instruction manual
that instructs to leave the songs that might be too catchy off the record,
I can't believe that "Is That The Thanks I Get" was left off the record.
I suppose it might have been "Down" syndrome where they felt
that it didn't fit in with the rest of the mostly much slower songs, but I'm really sort of rattled over this album.
I'm a long time huge Wilco fan and think Tweedy is without doubt
one of the finest American songwriters right now.
I'm certainly never gonna give up on these guys or this album,
but it's the first time I didn't immediately see the incredible level
of genius that is Wilco when listening to any of their albums.
I heard other people say they didn't get Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
and then A Ghost Is Born, but those hit me immediately as brilliant.
I'm really curious to see what other Wilco fans make of "Sky Blue Sky"
as they hear it in its entirety.
Maybe a week from now, I'll say, how didn't I get this sooner.
I hope so.
wilco...the white stripes...wolfmother...widespread panic
Where did you see the line up posted!?!?!!?!?!
PS, I think Sky Blue Sky is definitely a GREAT album...havent stopped listening to it for the past couple of weeks...its a little more mellow than the other albums, but there is some beautiful songs on there. Impossible Germany, Either Way, Sky Blue Sky and Please Be Patient With Me come to mind.

I've heard 4 songs from the new album and really enjoyed them all. Is there any way someone could pm a link to the whole album? It'd be greatly appreciated
It seems everybody in this thread has heard the new album in it's entirety except me. Did I miss something? Was the album leaked somewhere?? I know the band dubuted the whole thing on their website one day, but I wasn't able to catch it. I'd love to hear it before it's release, but a big part of me wants to wait until May 15th. I'm one of those old-school music fans who isn't satisfied until I have the actual CD in my hands with all the lyrics and artwork. I'm like a kid on Christmas morning everytime one of my favorite bands puts out a new record.
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

Apparently it leaked a while ago - and they seem fine with it:
