    seriously nobody is going?
Friday you get the 1st taste or Radiohead for the weekend plus some other smaller acts that i'm interested in like grizzly bear, the new pornographers (sucks that they overlap :( ), the Go Team and Underworld who i think will all be good live.
Saturday has Metric, Animal Collective, Kings of Leon and freakin Radiohead all on the same stage in that order. That's pretty damn impressive i think.
Sunday has matt costa, cat power, Ben Harper and then one of the best guitarist ever Trey Anastatio!

theres already a thread on here about APW...apparently people are angry at set times and what they paid for tickets.

Looks like a fun lineup...may I suggest going to Chromeo if you havent seen them before...VERY FUNNY and really good...in an 80s kind of way!

    Im going!

Im skipping Day 3 though because I already have 5 shows I'm going to next week and that means I'm broke.

The show should be awesome. I was pissed about the Kings of Leon and The Roots overlap but now I got over it and will miss half the KoL set.

I'm so happy Radiohead is getting 2 hours each night and I'm excited to see many bands there that I've never seen before.

  • I'll be there for night one......mostly for Radiohead.......Grizzly Bear is quite good as well, and I hear good things about Underworld altho techno isn't my scene. But yeah, for the acts that they have there, the ticket prices are quite exorbitant. and fuck their ferry for 20 bucks for each day of the festival.

ya i was going to ask where you guys are staying. Unfortunatly i just thought of going in that past couple days lol. The prices are crazy for hotels around the park and the ferry cost is insane at $20 a day. I was thinking of getting a room in newark but i've never been to ny or nj and don't know how far this is from the park. Can i take a subway or something from a hotel in newark near the airport to the park? Also, will the subway be running till late and how much is it each way?
If i go, i'm going alone, so hopefully i can meet up with some you guys

Ferry isn't only way from manhattan and while $20 is $20, the ride is great and well worth it IMO if y're coming from the city
alt is to take path (similar to subway, but it connects NY to Hoboken and Jersey City) from 32nd str/midtown to pavonia/newport and switch to light rail which stops at liberty state park. light rail also stops in hoboken, but pavonia is one stop closer
you can take train from newark, but you have to change a couple of times
(airtrain to njtransit to path to light rail)
its not far, but you do have to change and get different tkts for each
path and light rail are cheap (1.75 and 1.90) not sure exact $ of njtransit, prob around $5 and def less then $10
You'd buy a combo tkt at the airport for airtran/nj transit to newark/penn station where you'd get the path

i saw radiohead when they played Liberty in '01 and it was one of the best concert experiences of my life

you seem to know alot about the area, so i'm sorry but i have to ask a couple questions lol
How is the area in newark around the airport. I'm looking at the hampton which looks to be on spring street. I ask because as i said, i'm going alone and have been hearing alot of bad things about newark. I'm more concerned about getting back at night when i don't know what kind of condition i'll be in lol :)
So from penn station i would take the Path to pavonia and then get on the light rail to liberty state park right? Any idea how much a cab ride would be straight from the hotel/airport to liberty state park?

I will, not a huge fan of either. Basically, my buds are all going because they are big into radiohead whom Ive never seen. It will be fun, im sure.

Just hope the weather is nice and Ill have a good time.

ya i hope the weather is good but it's looking like rain. It's only a 30% chance right now so we aren't looking too bad.

I just booked my trip and got my tickets for the event so i'm down for a great trip :)
Decided to fly in and stay at the Millenium Hilton because it's pretty close to the ferry and seemed to get great reviews. I'll be taking the ferry which went up to 25bux but i guess it's ok since i'm staying in a better part of the city from what i've heard. Where abouts are you guys staying?
Anybody going to the eddie show on the thursday?

Anyone know anything about the special viewing platform for VIPs for the main stage? I've got a VIP ticket thing.

hey, i've been in ed solo mode so i havn't checked back in this thread, but it looks like you got yr answers and are in town but just in case path is a block east from penn (32nd and 6th) not sure on the cab, its not far (newark airport is exit 13a on nj turnpike, liberty state is exit 14b), but with gas prices these days it might be $$ and you'd have to make prearrangements getting one going back to the hotel

gotta agree with ya, tonight was sick. When they started all i was asking for was street spirit or EIIRP, i can't believe i got both in the same night and both ended sets, AWSOME! I'll agree with your highlights but really everything was super tight, all the songs of IR were incredible, videotape was much better live than it is on the cd. I would also add HTDC to the list of highlights, it was absolutely incredible live. But again, everything was amazing. Oh another highlight was when thom wasn't getting the right beat of cymbal rush and then got it and made a joke something along the lines of "now i got it". I can't remember the song but johnny was messing something up at the beginning of a song and thom told him to wake up, that was hallarious.
Sorry about the problems with the light rail, i took the ferry and i have to say they did an absolutely amazing job with it. With all the people i can't believe they never had a time where they weren't loading people onto boats. I think it took me about 15-20 minutes to get on the boat which was alot better than i was expecting since i was about 5 rows from the front for radiohead's set on johnny's side.
I was wearing my EV shirt that i bought on thursday and was suprised by how many people asked me how the show was, it seemed like every time i stopped people were asking :)
I also saw michael franti who was absolutely incredible and woke everybody up lol. I recommend anyone to check him out.
Grizzly bear was nice to chill out to, i found a good spot and laid down the grass surrounded by people, amazing experience.
Underworld was incredible aswell, i wish their show was done later in the night when it was dark but that wasn't in the cards. They were a perfect band to be on before radiohead. And radiohead dedicated EIIRP to them lol

If anybody wants to meet up in the beer tent next to the bullet stage tomorrow sometime let me know before noon. I'll probably be the only one there wearing a dropkick murphy's t-shirt, so keep an eye out lol. I didn't get there today till about 3:30 so i want to be there earlier tomorrow, which reminds me, i need some sleep lol

i don't know that much, it has it's own entrance but really that doesn't save you that much time. The bleachers were very far back but atleast you will see over the crowd if you don't want to work your way up to the front. They also have something in the back special for you guys but i don't know what it is.

so i guess nobody wants to meet up lol. Well, enjoy the show all.... All i know is, i had better hear 2+2=5 tonight and i pray they do 4 minute warning, but i doubt it :(

    How crowded is it?

Just curious how this festival is actually doing.

Of course there were a ton of people there but it wasnt so bad getting from stage to stage. I was up front for Radiohead and when I turned around I couldnt even see the back of the crowd, but you have to expect that when they are one of the biggest bands out there today closing the show.

Only one areas for bathrooms so there was a huge crowd there, and the line for getting wristbands to buy beer were VERY long- I didnt even bother. Free water for me!

Overall, I am happy with this event. Just about as crowded as I had expected. Too bad it takes me so long to get there when I live so close.

yesterday was pretty busy, i'd say probably about 20,000 or so, maybe a bit more. I'm expecting today to be alot busier and reaching close to 30,000

edit: remember they said 30,000 is a sell out so it's not that big of a festival to start with

Too bad it takes me so long to get there when I live so close.

sorry, wanted to correct 1 thing here, there are many place for washrooms. There are 2 huge areas, 1 near the bullet stage and one near the queens stage. Then there are spots with like 4 or so toilets located all over the place. The lineup for ID check was long but you only need to go through it once and then there is hardly a lineup for beer at all.

edit: remember that there are 3 beer tents, so if 1 line looks too long go to another. That's what i did and i only stood in line for about 10-15minutes
