Nice! I know Layne's gone, but they'll still sound pretty good. Really want to see them on tour. Missed them last time. :/
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

not having your original drummer and not having Layne Staley are two completely different situations. plus PJ's original drummer sucked.

well the drummer can contribute to a lot of the writing, i know matt doesn't do a lot but its evidence that they do have an input and some can write a lot - e.g. jimmy chamberlain in the smashing pumpkins

drums can sound very different.... everyone has their own unique style...

This is great news. I know jerry had some stuff before he started touring with AIC maybe some of that will see light on a new AIC album.

will be great to hear this.

Perhaps those who want to talk shit about how it is not AIC can start their own negative thread and keep this one for those of us who are excited to hear this!

I think there's still some question as to whether this will be called AiC or not. I saw them last year and it seemed like they were closing the book on that chapter of their history, paying tribute to Layne and preparing to move on.

"Alice in Chains" = cashing in on the name.

If they have any artistic integrity, they'll release this album under a new name.

if today is opposite day then this statement would be true. There are not many drummers that write as much as Matt does with PJ.

Billy Corgan is a control freak. He basically worte Siamese Dream by himself. I would be shocked if Jimmy Chamberlain had 1 writing credit to his name, maybe on Mellon Collie since it was a double album.

  • I'll be very interested to see whether they actually do keep the name or not. I thought they'd previously said that they were "interested in working on new material but not as Alice In Chains".

I'm not a huge AiC fan, but I like them enough to agree when people say they shouldn't use the AiC name for their new stuff. I say get a new name, branch out, and start over again. Fresh air.

This is very cool. They can stay AIC for all I care, and especially if they plan on playing old material. That would be lame playing AIC songs for 80% of the night under another name.

It's just like AC/DC and Van Halen, and currently Blind Melon.

I agree, its sad to see Jerry go down this route after putting out such great solo material. I'm sure Jerry loves playing with the other guys again, and they're not going to call it a Cantrell solo record with 2 of his fellow Alice in Chains members playing, so I guess they gotta call it AIC. Or call it something else, but its hard to come up with another bandname as great as Alice in Chains. Maybe its just that simple haha.

they should call themselves Alice Sans Chains.

Well, we dont know how much each member contributes exactly as we arn't in the band

Any of the motherfuckers here who are trash talking and saying that without Layne this is just another Cantrell album or whatever obviously didn't see this band live. I'd love them to keep the name, after last years tour being such a tribute to Layne I think keeping the name is an extension of that. Last year in TO they played a new song and it was great - every intermission had video tributes to Layne and I could swear in some songs they had Laynes voice sample doing backing.

The people who are smacking this up are the same people who refused to go see them because of them touring under the name Alice in Chains, I trust the bands decision more than peolpe who turned their back on a show simply due to a bands name.

I wasn't gonna add my 2 cents but I agree with gibbits! I got to see them last November and we were so happy to hear them sounding so damn good. William is a great front man, as we'd seen him back in 03 opening for Jerry, and he just melted in with the guys and really rocked the house!!! Whatever name they'll go by with the new material, I'll buy it!!

Layne was great and will be missed but obviously you haven't seen the live band the new singer is a dead ringer (no pun intended) I am now anxious for new material, and btw it is nothing like an cantrell solo album, he has the rest of aic with him (I know he did on the first solo album as well) but he wrote 95% of the aic library
