Jethro Tull ?

Only one of the best bands around... and still performing

I just missed out on a show because of my stupid finals ...

And what do you think is their best album?
My fave is Aqualung, second choice: Minstrel in the gallery

Yes, they were immortalized when they won the grammy for best Heavy Metal album of the year, the first year it was a catagory, as Metallica who just performed, were off on stage right.

On the other hand, I remeber them before that as well and love Locomotive Breath

    he hears the silence howling
and catches angles as they fall
    and the alltime winner
has got him by the balls..

YES, I remember them and still like them but you did not miss much. i saw them at our local fair 3-4 years and was not too impressed.

    I sure DO remember! :)

I saw them open for Led Zeppelin about ,, oh,,,, 250 years ago, :D , in the 60's, and they blew the Zep away that night!
Both Zeppelin and Tull used to have plenty of on and off live nights though, so it wasn't like Zeppelin was bad,, just like Tull was great that night. That was actually before Martin Barre joined them as the guitarist,,, and Tony Iommi played with them.
I love the pre aqualung stuff the best, This Was, Stand Up and Benefit,
but Aqualung and Thick as a Brick were amazing albums, too.

My dad has seen them live about 3 times, one of which was the best concert he ever saw...

Then again, my dad has seen all bands I love...
Uriah Heep, Zep, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, The Doors(didn't perform, but my dad drank whiskey with morrisson), The Who, ...

Tull rocks. Martin Barre is a really under rated guitarist.

replace Pink Floyd with Bob Dylan and that list describes my dad's musical preferences

and he liked JT a lot if I'm not mistaken

When I was a little girl I was terrified of Ian Scott Anderson. I remember seeing him on MTV talking about sitting on a parkbench and little girls...

Funny... my brother lives in Israel and told me 5 miutes ago that Tull will be playing there, i think in August...

Personally i am not a fan and i have actually hated them since the mid 90's when they were given a Grammy award for Best Heavy Metal Band that beat out Metallica's Master of Puppets.... WHAT BULLSHIT....

i know it is not their fault, but i guess i am still holding a grudge since it is one of my all time favorite albums.

Actually, my dad is also a big fan of Dylan ...

Greatest thing about this is ... he still has all his vinyls (and a high definition soundsystem)

Meanwhile back in the year one --- when you belonged to no-one ---
You didnt stand a chance son, if your pants were undone.
`cause you were bred for humanity and sold to society ---
One day youll wake up in the present day ---
A million generations removed from expectations
Of being who you really want to be.
    Skating away ---
    Skating away ---
Skating away on the thin ice of the new day.

So as you push off from the shore,
Wont you turn your head once more --- and make your peace with everyone?
For those who choose to stay,
Will live just one more day ---
To do the things they should have done.
And as you cross the wilderness, spinning in your emptiness:
You feel you have to pray.
    Looking for a sign
That the universal mind (!) has written you into the passion play.

Skating away on the thin ice of the new day.

And as you cross the circle line, the ice-wall creaks behind ---
Youre a rabbit on the run.
And the silver splinters fly in the corner of your eye ---
    Shining in the setting sun.
Well, do you ever get the feeling that the storys
Too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybodys on the stage, and it seems like
Youre the only person sitting in the audience?

Skating away on the thin ice of the new day.

I don't think I know any of their songs. I just know my mother in law says he lives near by. I'm going to get insulted now but I think it's funny.

I wish I lived near Chris Cornell or Eddie Vedder instead!

Just looked up info. on him and it said he did an interveiw recently on the radio station in the same town that I was born in. (Radio station is awful by the way). He lives in the same county as me. My mother in law met him because she is a politician-but not really interested in pop music.

I like music dating back to the 50's but have never really listened to them. (Jethro Tull). It says they are very heavily blues orientated so maybe I should check them out for that reason.

You should check them out even for their lyrics ... AND of course the flute, few rock groups have succesfully ntegrated a flute as a leading instrument

Think you arrange a meeting for me? ;):p

  • yeah-I will check them out but it's the flute that puts me off.

P.S. not because he lives near me. I am not that shallow. It's funny though.

    Sure!

Seriously, I know he lives on a farm near by but that could be anywhere, where I live! I don't think my mother in law would know. She has met lot's of famous people and she never even knows who they are! Funniest thing was that she was Simon Le Bonn's English teacher! Now that's cool! (Simon Le Bonn from Duran Duran. I think that's how you spell his name).
