Any fans here, I see tons of others, haven't heard about the crows. I dig'm.
Fav. Song? Album? I'm new around here...Talk to me. I'm a Pj fan for too many years to count. Ben Harper? Blind Melon? Yup, Dig'm. Talk to me...I'm all ears. I like chick music too, but I'll get bashed for it I'm sure. But I am a chick what do you expect?

    Recovering the Satellites - classic.
August and Everything After - almost classic

They had alot of potential back in the day!
  • not a fan since they sold out

I'm assuming you mean with Hard Candy? Man what a cheesy over earnest record.

The three previous albums still hold up IMHO.

I've liked the band since August and everything after, with my favourite album being This desert life. My favourite songs are mrs potters lullaby and daylight fading.

all I had to say on this one, Hard Candy had moments but was just a weak outing the other three are all fantastic albums,

Great singles band. First two albums were stellar, among the best of the 90's. After that they changed to a more top 40 friendly sound which I wasn't as fond of. If you don't have it yet, get "Songs about Ghosts" their best of cd. One of my all time favorite best of cd's.

Like the band, but have to say their live show left me flat. They played the MEN Arena here in Manchester (holds 22,000 - biggest in Europe) but either didn't sell all the tickets, or wanted a smaller set up because it was only about 1/3 full, the stage was moved much closer than normal, and the top tiers of seats were not sold.

Good band on record, but wouldn't pay to see them live again (not that they tour the UK very often anyway)

  • I saw them live and it was a decent concert. Afterwards my friends and I met the guys from the band. They were real nice and friendly. They were going to join us for a drink, but were told they had to get going for the next show. They all signed my ticket stub. Kind of cool.

As others have said, their early stuff is better than the recent stuff.
  • A great band all around - love all the positivity here guys! Looking forward to hearing their new record.

  • I didn't get into them until about 7-8 years ago. Loved This Desert Life. Even loved Hard Candy. Saturday nights and Sunday Mornings is ok and I listen to Underwater Sunshine a lot (last night in fact). Though it's a covers album they really make the songs their own.

The problem is live. I saw them about 5 years ago and it was terrible. They played for about an hour or so, and played uninspired. Also, it seems like they enjoy messing with the arrangements which is fine, but not for every song. I've had a chance to see them a bunch times over the last few years but I pass every time.
  • I've never seen them live - but I am not a big fan of the way Adam does the August album live. Too much improvisation and to me it almost deflates the songs. The live record they released of the August album kind of changed my thoughts on them as a band now. But damn, those first two records were just flat out amazing and still are.

I have seen them live a couple times and like you said, there's way too much improvisation from Adam....kinda takes away from the songs and makes it hard to enjoy.
  • Part of me doesn't want to be that guy who says just play the songs like you wrote them - but with Counting Crows I am bummed they don't. I think lineup changes do that - and a lead singer who has a serious history of mental health issues.

Last time I saw them a couple of years ago they were pretty good, but I've seen some really shitty performances over the years. Adam changes the vocal melodies up so much at times that it just kills any atmosphere and nobody can sing along. It's a shame, because when he's on form they can be an incredible live band.

I hear ya. I get most bands change things up a bit when performing live, but Duritz seems to change up the vocal melodies a lot for just about every song....it gets pretty annoying.
