This album has caused me to experiment, and also has caused me to consider others. Any Colour You Like....holy fuck....just listening to that track makes me high.

This album makes me happy :)

it is a good album. my buddy was a huge pink floyd fan so i heard it many times while being wasted on various substances in high school and college. oddly, i never bought it and listened to it on my own until i'd sobered up. it's still excellent!

you really want a trip though, take some lsd and listen to echoes... if you can last 24 minutes through the screaming in the desert.
    and like that... he's gone.
  • It is indeed a trippy album, I haven't listened to it in a while, think I'll listen to it again. Awesome, awesome Floyd album.

Be sure to catch Chris Cornell's version of "Dark Side of the Moon" (as quoted by him), titled 'Scream' in October. It's shaping up to be a real piece of shit....

Pink Floyd is a gateway band...so many eyes have been opened by a copy of Dark Side and a pair of headphones. Kids who get weaned on hip hop (like my nephew, unfortunately, despite my attempts with Led Zeppelin) and bubblegum pop get floored when they find out music can actually be about something. It's not for nothing that DSOTM stayed on the Billboard charts for 20 years or whatever. Every year a whole bunch of people discover it for the first time.

I saw Floyd when I was 16 and even without Waters they changed my life. For the next two or three years it seems like I listened to Dark Side or WYWH (sometimes both) every single day. I don't listen to nearly as much Floyd as I used to but every once in awhile it's a kick to hear those two again, and Animals is probably my favorite thing they did, especially Dogs--17 minutes of dark, seething, cynical greatness.

A couple of years ago I saw Roger Waters perform Dark Side in its entirely live...while I'd heard it so many times and musically it broke no new ground, it was a complete blast. Fun.

By the way, I hope no one tries to propagate that "Wizard of Oz" connection. It's bullshit.

Ditto for the "Echoes" - 2001: A Space Odyssey business. Heads with too much time on their hands.
