the greatest hits package they put out (Echoes) is pretty good for a new fan, with a few grievances from me:
WAY TOO MUCH Momentary Lapse/Division Bell stuff (5 songs counting both) and only one song from Saucerful of Secrets, nothing from Atom Heart Mother and only one song from Animals. An edited version of Dogs wouldn't have hurt. but really, Sorrow? High Hopes? get the hell out of here. get rid of that and throw on Have a Cigar or something. Learning to Fly and Keep Talking are more then enough from that era of Floyd. there are much more essential things for a collection like this that should have been included. and where the hell was RUN LIKE HELL?

yeah, that comp was disappointing. i also didn't like the weird fading into and out of songs thing they did. i know they did it often on albums, but when you're jumbling their catalogue together, it was way too jarring. i also hated that they put an edited down echoes on there. that song belongs in all its 24 minutes of glory. there did seem to be a few weak choices as well.
Scream Thy Last Scream and Vegetable Man should be released officially, once and for all, on such an album. They're the two best songs in the Floyd catalogue, in my opinion.
FPC, your opinion is completely valid but in the great minority.
I'll start with the Echoes tracklisting:
1. Astronomy Domine
2. See Emily Play
3. The Happiest Day of Our Lives
4. Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)
5. Echoes
6. Hey You
7. Marooned
8. The Great Gig in the Sky
9. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun
10. Money
11. Keep Talking
12. Sheep
13. Sorrow
14. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-7)
15. Time
16. The Fletcher Memorial Home
17. Comfortably Numb
18. When the Tigers Broke Free
19. One of These Days
20. Us And Them
21. Learning to Fly
22. Arnold Layne
23. Wish You Were Here
24. Jug Band Blues
25. High Hopes
26. Bike
Get rid of these:
2. See Emily Play
7. Marooned
13. Sorrow
25. High Hopes
26. Bike
And then add:
Careful With That Axe Eugene
Fearless
Free Four
Brain Damage/Eclipse
Run Like Hell
Two Suns in the Sunset
I've never seen anything special about Atom Heart Mother. Too... "orchestral."
It is time to admit that we used to rock like hurricanes. It is time to run for the hills and go round and round. It is time for us to shout at the devil. We've got the right to choose it, there ain't no way we'll lose it, and we're not gonna take it anymore.
- C. Klosterman

15. Time
17. Comfortably Numb

Brain Damage
Eclipse
Wish You Were Here

Shine On You Crazy Diamond (the whole)

Yay entire wish you were here on it. WYWH is their best album IMO.
And after that The Wall but I think you should see The Wall in it's entirety and not as 26 invidual songs. With exception from Comfortably Numb, In The Flesh?, and Hey You
I don't want to be the fool that's behind me but I am...

Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
cool...thanks for all the suggestions, i was trying to make a kick ass mp3 disc of floyd to listen to while traveling to and from work (bout a 45 min. drive). keep 'em coming!!
I would say that Sorrow and High Hopes definitely deserved there spot on the comp.
Also, come on....the Best of was a way for younger folks to get into Pink Floyd...and any self-respecting Floyd fan listens to the entire CD...not just the "hit songs". They were a true album band if there ever was one.
How about Meddle,DSOTM,WYWH,Animals,The Wall, audio track to Live at Pompeii. As far as the post Waters, On the Turning Away, High Hopes, Coming Back To Life, A Great Day For Freedom.
