After reading alot of the stuff posted about The Tragically Hip on this site I decided to buy 'Yer Favourates' - and I'm really enjoying alot. I notice some albums are more represented that others (Fully Completely & Phamton Power have lots of tracks) whereas alot of the newer albums have only 2 cuts from them. Anyway i'm thinking of picking some of there albums up (not easy as most of them don't seem to have been released in the UK) - can someone with alot of knowledge and all the albums do a rating of the albums (briefly) the real great must own albums and the ones that prehaps aren't so strong.

I like alot of the songs from 'Yer Favs' but the ones that really standout for me are :

Three Pistols
It's a good life if you don't weaken.
Fiddlers Green.
Lake Fever.
Fireworks
Bobcaygeon
At the Hundredth Meridan
The Darkest One.

Thanks in advance!

Albums that will blow your mind:

    1. Day for Night
    2. Phantom Power
    3. World Container
    4. Road Apples
    5. Fully Completely
    6. Trouble at the Henhouse
    7. In Between Evolution

Albums that are good, but not quite as good as the ones above:

    1. In Violet Light
    2. Music@Work
    3. Up to Here
    4. The Tragically Hip (EP)
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

This list is nearly in perfect agreement with my views, EXCEPT I'd put In Violet Light in the mindblowing category, for myself personally. I agree that its not for everyone, though.

    You must own now!

    - Day for Night
    - Fully Completely
    - World Container

But pick them all up if you can. They are all stellar!
E agora? Faz xixi na mão e deita fora!
  • Remember the tracklisting for the greatest hits "yer favorites" are just that fan picked songs from an online vote on there site before it was released!

    Thanks guy (more opinions welcome).

Anyone from the UK know a good site to import these from? Amazon.co.uk is useless and I can only get Yer Fav's from there. Amazon.com has about half there albums out of stock :/

from the tunes you mentioned i would say phantom power is a must have for you. solid cover to cover. one of my faves for sure.

then i would suggest road apples, fully completely and in violet light. :)

    stay hip! :D
  • ...oh, and the live album, "live between us" is a great way to get some of their best tunes up to that point and get a feel for how ridiculously good the live show is. great energy and you get to hear gord downie do a couple of classic song intros and gives you some insight into what a great performer and front man he is.

the version of "nautical disaster" on that one is the best i've ever heard! :)
