The Verve reunite for tour
Richard Ashcroft and co write new songs
The Verve are set to reunite for a winter tour.

The original band of Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe,Simon Jones and Pete Sailsbury have got together for the first time in almost a decade.

In a statement, the band have announced they were: "Getting back together for the joy of the music."

It is believed they will take a summer break and then return to the studio to complete their next album.

The band broke up in 1999, with the tumultuous relationship between Ashcroft and McCabe being well documented with the two exiting the band repeatedly since they began in 1993.

The band are set to play:

Glasgow Academy (November 2,3)
Blackpool Empress Ballroom (5,6)
London Roundhouse (8,9)

Tickets are set to go on sale on July 6.

To check ticket availability and get all the latest listings, go to NME.COM/GIGS, now.

Brilliant news, although i hated ashcroft's solo stuff, the verve were fantastic. My birthday is on the glasgow 2nd night, will definitely be there.
People say im paranoid. Well, they dont say it, but i know that's what they are thinking.

Wow, everyone has reunion fever. Very happy about this. I actually like Ashcroft's solo stuff, but I much prefer this.

This is so fucking awesome, I hope they come to North America. It'll be great to see him and Nick McCabe back on stage again.

Check out the album 'A Nothern Soul' or their b-sides disc 'No Come Down'. I bet a lot of people here would really like 'em.
Bittersweet Shitphony is not a good representation of the band.

Because Ashcroft's solo material is so pedestrian and middle of the road he makes Weller's last few solo albums sound cutting edge.

I actually think The Verve's Northern Soul album is much better than the vastly overrated Urban Hymns.

This album came out at the height of brit pop and was so fawned over, Bittersweet Sympathy was so overplayed and nothing on that album matched the majesty of History.

Alongside Unkle's Lonely Soul feat Ashcroft as the best thing he's ever done.

It's unlikely they'll capture the vibe they had before, They are too old and Band's that split and get back together, very rarely are any good.

Most likely the biggest motive is money, they can dress it up as we all felt it was the right time guff but they will make a lot more money as the Verve than any of them on their own.

Those expecting any thing special are seriously clutching at straws.

Just check out Ian McCulloch of Echo and the Bunnymen for example, always jealous of U2's sucess and has almost a bigger mouth than is ego. He continues to reform the Bunnymen with average results.

Although I'm not against Band's reforming entirely, most of the time they just make a mockery of their past and just try to recycle what they had before.

Ashcroft's appearance at Live 8 was painful.

Although no doubt NME has shot their load at the news of this and will pretend to be Richards best friend despite giving his albums average reviews for the last several years.

totally agree, urban hymns was vastly over-rated. The two albums before it were much better
I actually think See You On The Next One(have a good time) from Storm In Heaven is my favourite verve song.

Interesting info for those of you who don't know. I just learned this the other day actually. Bittersweet symphony was a complete rip-off of the orchestral version of the Rolling Stones "The Last Time". Must suck for The Verve that they didn't get hardly any $ from their most popular song because the Rolling Stones ended up with almost all of the royalties. I didn't believe this until I heard them both played the other day..................there's no denying that the melody was completely ripped off..............I guess it's always a good idea to ask for permission BEFORE publishing a song by someone else...................bitter-sweet indeed.

Well you're partially right. Part of the string part is a sample of an orchestral arrangement of "The Last Time", though it is backwards or something compared to the original song. Thing is, the Stones didn't sue but their asshole manage from the early days, Klein, saw another opportunity to cash in and took advantage. The Verve lost since "they used the sample too much." Pretty ridiculous considering they had permission to use it.
