I don't listen to any of them but I have heard the names thrown about a lot.
Some days you wake up and sit on a park bench next to an eighty year old Russian architect, and some days you don't. I think this is my new life philosophy.

Ok, if you want some Gothic bands check:
Lacrimosa, I'd recommend the "Elodia" and "Echoes" album
Theatre of tragedy, especially "Velvet darkness they fear" and "Aegis"
London after midnight, check "Selected scenes from the end of the world"
Bauhaus, pretty much anything like someone else said.
The Shroud, check the "In the garden" CD.
Don't be confused with bands like evanescence, lacuna coil, etc... they are NOT gothic-darkwave. They are more nü metal than anything. You will notice that most gothic bands aren't even that heavy. Sure, they have distorted guitars and some grunts, but most of the time the melodies are calm, the lyrics dark and the music flows slowly.
