I have Staind's debut "Tormented" and it kicks major ass, but now "Chapter V" sucks major ass!!!! Any situations of media ruining bands that you noticed?

How do you think the media ruined the band, out of curiosity? I mean, it was the band's decision to make music that would appeal to the masses (and hence usually gets the tired and derivative sound bands like Godsmack, Disturbed, U2, Foo Fighters, new Metallica etc etc), so ultimately, the band is the one who should take the heat for sounding like ass.

There's much more media-hyped bands than media-ruined bands. They wouldn't have been ruined by the media if they didn't rely on so much hype to make them popular. Covering "Black" was such a huge media-hype stunt.

Well, Fred Durst picked up Staind and hated "Tormented" and said they would have to do something else ("Dysfunction" anyone) or he would drop them. SOO, Fred Durst is the ass (BUT, as if we didn't know that?)

He may be an ass, but ultimately it was staind's choice to take the money and contract over their original sound. They could have just as easily told him to fuck off and have been done with him.

PJ never wanted to be popular to begin with!! So its ironic that a band would cover them for hype!!!

I doubt staind was covering black for the hype, since that song doesn't really register to about 90% of the population anyways

I was really hoping you were talking about the Foo, even if I don't enjoy their music much.

Nah. Although I would put them slightly above MOST of the other garbage Mr. Echoes referred too - including Metalliwah.
Grohl plays a mean drumkit and their first two albums were halfway decent, but they have gone down the tubes in a big way IMO.

my argument was the media ruined them and along with Fred Durst it did. If you listened to "Tormented" then you'd know.

    Oh it's a REAL thread.

as opposed to... a fake one?

Don't see much in early Staind, mid- Staind or late Staind. Sorry man.

But you can only get this album on eBay. Have you heard "Tormented'"? Its the ONLY good album they made!

I'll have to take your word for that one good sir knight. As I said though, nothing I've heard would lead me to believe that they could actually produce something worth listening to more that once, let alone buying.

man I suppose I should have put my tounge in cheek icon up. They are just substanceless, fun threads. Make of them what you will, but there is zero discussion going on in them.

right. so they are not "real" threads. I get it.

Anyway, back to topic... which was how the nasty media has ruined the musical titans known as Staind.

I don't blame the media for bands deciding to put all artistic integrity aside and just make music for money. It's all on the band. The only thing the media does is try to curb the public's view on what is good or worthwhile.

But in Staind's case Fred Durst(media) offered them millions for them changing their sound to a generic radio-friendly sound(although "Break The Cycle" wasnt that horrid like Chapter V). So Staind might not have had a chance at fame if they turned him down. As he says in a song "I gave in, too much pressure". Honestly, im callin' you out! What would you have done??????????
