I'm gonna list some punk bands and all you have to do is list a good punk band that I didn't mention.

Bad Religion
The Misfits
Anti-Flag
Sex Pistols
The Clash
Dead Kennedys
NOFX
Rancid
The Distillers
Social Distortion
The God Awfuls
The Casualties
X
G.B.H.
Bad Brains
Iggy And The Stooges
The Dead Boys
Suicidal Tendancies
MXPX
Black Flag
Husker Du
Fugazi
Rise Against
AFI (pre-Sing the Sorrow)

P.S.: Do NOT say The Ramones, I am aware of them and all who say The Ramones will be flamed unmercifally.

you hit my favorites-the Clash and Rancid.

how about the Dead Boys...theyre decent

and some would consider the MC5 a primitive punk band, at least highly influential on the genre
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

The Clash is classic punk and if Rancid isn't it really should be! I just checked out some Dead boys stuff on iTunes, its cool so I'm adding it to my post. I like MC5 but wouldn't really call them punk.

  • How about Black Flag, Husker Du, and (if you want to call them punk, dunno if they are) The Velvet Underground? Just some of my favorites.

Black Flag and Husker Du are awesome, bu Velvet Underground aren't punk.

Although you've mentioned the DK's, the Jello Biafra & The Melvins discs are definately worth a mention here.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Ohhh the Transplants. They had lots of variety in their sound, but a lot of it was punk if anything.

the other main precursor to Fugazi, Guy Picciotto's band, Rites of Spring are pretty awesome. "For want of" is a brilliant song. Also Bob Mould's post Husker Du band, Sugar and Ian MacKaye's post Minor Threat, Pre Fugazi band Embrace (not to be confused with the extremely shite english band of the same name).
