Everybody, I want you to try to listen to:

"Weather Report"
"Chick Corea"
"Mahavishnu Orchestra"
"Jeff Beck"
"Manhattan Transfer"
"Pat Metheny Group"

Trust me. You'll love it! Any other jazz/jazz-fusion lovers care to suggest other artists or comment on the selected artists.

That's all I've been getting into lately (as of '95), since new music just blows.

Good call on the Chick Corea, Jeff Beck and Mahavishnu Orchestra (I was listening to Birds Of Fire when I logged on...very strange!) I haven't heard any Metheny in a loooong time; I'll have to get caught up!

The guitar work on the MO's work by John McLaughlin is amazing. I would also recommend Return To Forever, Chick Corea's old group, and the album Romantic Warrior w/ Al Di Meola.

But.....if you wanna get a great disc, do yourself a favor and buy Friday Night In San Francisco featuring Di Meola, McLaughlin, and Paco de Lucia. Its a live album with the three of them just playing acoustic guitars; no rhythm section or background music. If you appreciate guitar, I promise you'll listen to this one and either become really inspired, or turn your six-string into a wall clock. You'll be moved no matter what.

Friday night in frisco (as I like to call it:D) is absolutely stunning. I bought it on an impulse, havng heard great things about john mclaughlin and it floored me. Most of all, Paco de Lucia's playing on that album is flawless. He totally owns John AND Al in my opinion and he doesn't even use a pick. I was definitely on the "turning gutar into wallclock" end of the spectrum after hearing this althogh it inspired me too.

To the person who original posted the topic, I think Mahavishnu orchestra are awesome too and am curious as to whether weather report are worth checking, my only knowledge of WR related music being Jaco's first album.

People should just buy Bitches Brew...the album that basically gave birth to Fusion Jazz...and would who's members would go on to form Weather Report and another band who I can place at the moment.

Also Chick Corea was in the band.

I recently bought Chick Corea's "Rendezvous In New York" and it is great and so is Weather Report's "Mr. Gone" although new listeners should start with "Heavy Weather". I've also been listening to some "John Coltrane" and "Yngwie Malmsteen". Any reccommendations for Coltrane?

wow.........flashback.......you're listening to what I was listening to in the 80s.....I saw DiMeola, McLaughlin, Paco DeLucia AND Steve Morse, (The Dixie Dregs later becoming just The Dregs)......totally fucking amazing, yes.....4 guitars and how they could build the excitement...........so glad I got to see it with my own eyes......

Chick is another worthy musician to hear, with any of his chosen members.....Stanley Clarke is such a cool bass player.....anyway, I also went through a latin fusion faze that included Flora Purim (vocals) and her husband Airto, one of the premier percussionists!! They rocked me out so hard I couldn't believe it.....got to see them live twice......look for them....

Jeff Beck, OH YEAH!!! Yes, you should check out Weather Report......got to see them too.....yes, check out Bitches Brew......the man, Miles, was so ahead of his time......

Manhattan Transfer, wow...........yes, I saw them but again, over 20 years ago.....they were so good......perfect flawless harmonies.....New York Afternoon, oy.........anyway, thanks for reminding me I had really good taste back in the day too!!!
