Now, I dont see why people here hate DMB so much, I own ALL of their albums and my fav ones are "Under The Table And Dreaming" and "Crash". I think it's screwed up that the same people that hate DMB go and cheer for John Mayer! I won't name names. but anyone that likes John Mayer and hates DMB is very ignorant. But, really are there any DMB fans here???

    I like Dave.
The last couple albums have sucked pretty bad IMO, but I still really like them.

Yeah but Everyday wasn't THAT bad.

I just started a thread about a week ago about Dave.

I like and respect him and the band. One of the very few great mainstream American Rock Bands. And yes, I know he's originally from South Africa.

I'm a big fan. I can see why some people would be critical if they don't like the music, but I think a majority of the people don't listen to him to know anything about his music, which is amazing. Sure, Stand Up was complete shit, but listen to the Central Park Concert, or Live At Red Rocks, or Live In Chicago, or Listener Supported. Some of the best live albums I've ever heard, and prove that their music is breathtaking, timless, creative, genious, inspiring, fun, and amazing. Just watch Boyd Tinsley perform - one of the greatest live players I've ever heard. He's captivating (his stage energy and presence is phenomenal), and he's creative (just listening to him makes me want to dance - AND HE PLAYS A VIOLIN). Carter is an terrific drummer - amazing in every sense of the word, and is very energetic. LeRoi, while not energetic, is a force to be reckoned with - so creative on the sax, and gives the music such a beautiful feel to it.

Now, I understand why they don't like the whole scene, and his fans, but that's not a reason to his the band. Dave Matthews Band is a group of incredibly talented musicians from good influences (uh, Grateful Dead!). Now, the fans on the other hand piss me off in every way to, to the point where I won't openly talk about them in school unless I feel like it, because everyone in school is "huge" "Dave" fans, but they make fun of me for liking Radiohead and Pearl Jam, and most give me blank looks when I say I like the Grateful Dead, for they don't know who they are. They like country music, rap, and "Dave", and it just pisses me off. But, that doesn't take away from the music - which is amazing. I don't care if most people don't like it here - they're the ones missing out, not me or you.

  • I love DMB. My second fav band next to PJ. I own all of their albums and most of their live releases. They are a great live band. My fav album is Under The Table And Dreaming. I don't think the new stuff sucked though, it took me a while to get into Stand Up but it is a great album. You Might Die Trying is one of my favorite DMB songs now. I always follow whatever they do.

I like DMB, used to love them. I started losing interest after the "Lillywhite Sessions" were scrapped for Everyday. I didn't really like that album or Stand Up.

As far as the DMB haters, I think it's just the cool thing to do.

If you don't like DMB, that's one thing, but no one can deny that Dave is an unbelievable guitarist. The rest of the guys are extremely talented musicians and they are excellent live, so if anything a non-fan should be able to appreciate that.

    Really? The last couple?

I'm not crazy about Stand Up, but Busted Stuff is my favorite DMB album by a mile. I think I am the only one on Earth who thinks it is their best. I absolutely love "Grey St.," "Where Are You Going," "You Never Know," "Raven," "Captain," "Grace is Gone," "Bartender," and "Big Eyed Fish."

Plus, it is one of 4 albums I have heard every song from live (along with DMB's "Under the Table and Dreaming," Live's "Throwing Copper" and Binaural.
but I am an "Oceans" shy from adding Ten to the list)

Hmmm...Busted Stuff is kinda crappy IMO. I LOVE Grey Street!!! Fantastic song!! I also really like Where Are You Going. Outside of that I think it's pretty weak.
    Stand Up is miserable.
    Everyday is ok.
Under the Table, Before These, and Crash are classic albums.

We all like diff. albums...hell one of my fav. PJ albums is Binaural...
    ;)
  • I'm a fan of DMB and have seen them live a couple of times. I really enjoy mostly their older stuff. I think Everyday and Stand Up are really hit or miss albums, I think between them there is a great CD in there, but Busted Stuff I think is incredible. I'm kind of hoping for an album like that with their next effort.
I will have to agree with someone earlier who says they hate the fanbase for DMB. I hate being assosiated with frat boy crowds, but I guess I'm too busy being into the music while they're trying to get laid with their visor sideways.
  • DMB is one of my 4 favorite bands that never change. They have gone downhill with this last album but I liked BS and Everyday. With BS, I think they made progress with some songs off Lillywhite Sessions but also went downhill with some other songs. I think if I could take the versions I like off each it would be an amazing album. I think UTTAD, Crash, and BTCS are 3 of the best albums I own. Love 'em!

Stand Up was horrible, Busted Stuff was amazing (the songs are way better live - Grace Is Gone, Grey Street, Raven, Bartender, Big Eyed Fish & JTR all take off live. Where Are You Going sucks, though), and Everyday grew on me, but still has it's down points.

Not even the most avid DMB fan would argue that.

  • I like Everyday. The first three songs are good (I know millions hate "I Did It"---but oh well) and I think "So Right" is good plus I love hearing "If I Had it All" live.

I've already professed my love for Busted Stuff

I think Dave's solo album --Some Devil--- has some good stuff. I love the second song that I can never remember the title to. Plus the title track is good.

I would never say Stand Up is horrible because I do like the singles (Dreamgirl and American Baby---plus the A.B. intro) and I absolutely LLLLOOOOOOVVVVVEEEE "Old Dirt Hill (Bring That Beat Back)" I have never listened to that song less than twice. I always have to hit the back button when it is over.
