I am a huge fan of this unbelievable band, and because of how great they are musically, lyrically, and...how innovative their sound is, I, frankly am sick and tired of bands like Disturbed and Korn constantly getting more attention than them and one more thing for the nu-metal heads if you think Slipknot and Mudvayne are "heavy as hell" you should hear some Thrash-Metal because I think that nu-metal ripped off thrash in many ways. Oh and if thrash is too hard for you try Power Metal, if it's too soft, then try death metal, and if death metal isn't heavy enough, try Grindcore(aka Goregrind) and if you dont like low vocals then try Black Metal. But back to subject, I personally find Opeth to be one of the absolute greatest bands of all time and I would like to know your opinion.

I support your thread. Finished up listening to Ghost Reveries about an hour ago. Saw them live a couple times the last time with Pelican. One of the greatest concerts in recent memory. Fantastic band.

If you like Opeth check out Bloodbath...its got Mikael Akerfeldt on vocals (though he doesn't feature on their last album) along with the guitarist and bassist from Katatonia and Dan Swano of Edge of Sanity. New Opeth drummer Martin Axenrot is also in the band. If you like Opeth at its heaviest and loudest...then this band is for you.

Opeth is the shit! I love this band ever since I've heard Blackwater Park. The live shows leave me in awe (seriously) and I think they are some of the best musicains Ive ever witnessed.

Kudos to evolutionbaby for bringing up some REALLY good music!!

Why don't you like the new one? Granted it's not Morningrise, Blackwater Park, or None So Vile(by a different band, Cryptopsy) but I still like it.

  • In my opinion, the BEST band of the recent history... no ones compares to the majesty that is OPETH!

and Ghost Reveries is their best album, I don't get the hate for it.

man comparing Ghost Reveries to None So Vile is like comparing a yugo to a ferrari. totally different worlds.

And why I didn't like it? It was too proggy, less metal. It sounded too much like Dream Theater, and I haven't been so keen on DT in the last year or so. Too clean for my tastes, maybe? I think Opeth are immensely talented, but this just didn't pack the same punch their albums usually do

I love Opeth! I'm always pushing them on people...uh I mean recommending them. I've seen them five times so far and they never disappoint.

  • I love Opeth, I have seen them 3 times. The first time they came the drummer had a problem he stayed home so they refunded 5 dollars at the door and played for about 30 minutes with the drum tech. I like each album and they introduced me to other band great bands such as Moonspell and Porcupine Tree, both bands I probably would of never heard of because they get no press in North America.

Fucking Amazing band.... the "Led Zeppelin of Heavy Metal" like my friend calls them. The first time I heard Black Rose Inmortal I was like what the fuck is this shit?... I was totally blown away. Blackwater Park is still my fave cd by them, Damnation is fucking sweet as well.

Saw them early this year in NYC and it was great.... Nevermore another amazing band that you all guys should check out opened for them that night.

I'm not one for the death metal and such, but my friends introduced me to them and they're fucking amazing. I went to an evening with show at the HOB and it was so intense. Definitely one of the better metal bands to come out in the past few years.

well, they've been around 1997, so its hardly "the last few years"

They've been around even longer than that. They formed in 1990 and Orchid came out in 1995.
