In honour of me buying my very first Tom Waits album today, I have to ask this question:

'What IS he building in there?'

Any ideas?

I'm voting that he's building a reconstruction of the mountain where the aliens will visit.

so you did go with Mule Variations?

I think he's building some kind of bomb, by the way.

No, actually, I heard this song on itunes, as well seeing the MTV2 video of it on youtube. I went for 'Closing Time', as I want to go in chronological order. I love most of 'Closing Time' - 'Lonely', 'Martha' and 'Ol' 55' particularly. Just occasionally it's a little cliched lyric-wise, but that's not often. I think this album showed massive potential for the highly creative man Waits became.

And thanks to the Pit for introducing us!

I always thought he was just referring to someone who didn't go out much, and raising the curiousity of his neighbors. He isn't building anything dangerous, but the story in the neighorhood keeps getting wilder and wilder.

Nobody really knows the guy, but they all seem to know an awful lot ABOUT him.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.
