A question for The CURE fans...

Right. I discovered The Cure only a few months ago, and am already a huge fan and want to get as much stuff as I can from them. But therein lies a potential issue: I've done a bit of research and it turns out they've changed band members more than Pearl Jam have changed drummers. A lot more. A lot, lot more.
Can it be possible to be a massive fan of 'the band'? Who are 'the band' anyway? How true is it that 'The Cure are a very talented bunch of lads'? Is it not the frontman who is talented, and the rest of the band has revolved around him over the years? He appears to have done most of the work (keeping them, or perhaps 'it', 'together' and all that).
Maybe I'm way off base. Fire away. Help.
