Is there any love for System of a Down around here?

Easily the most creative and talented band to come out of the 'Nu Metal' scene, in my opinion. Toxicity is a great album.

never liked them. the nursery school guitar phrasing always bumed me out...like on "Sugar". plus i think Serj is a very bad singer, so is their guitarist. a horrible singer.

i respect their political beliefs but i was never a fan.

Oh yea, SOAD is the shiznit!!
Down in the hole, Jesus tries to crack a smile beneath another shovel load.
  • i really like em too. nobody else sounded like them at all. hate that they kinda got lumped in with a lot of shitty bands.

i do think they've gone downhill though. Mezmerize and Hypnotize were kinda boring
  • Toxicity is great, but Hypnotize/Mezmerize are incredible. Daron's increased vocal and songwriting presence really made their sound grow.

Hypnotize/Mezmerize is where they started to drop off my radar... they're alright, but just a little too weird and chaotic, plus they kinda sound the same... self-titled and Toxicity are great... I really love how Steal This Album just flows, plus they have a lot of good songs on there.
If I could, think I would give in.

I've been a fan since first hearing Sugar. The double album is my favorite. I wish they'd get back together now because Serj sucks on his own. I saw him open for the Foo Fighters and I was wishing it to be over the whole time.

  • Toxicity is an amazing album and, in my opinion, it is one of the only albums I have ever heard where I thought any song off of there could have been radio friendly. As far as best "Nu Metal" band, I still give that up to Slipknot.

You can blame SOAD for getting the science wrong then.

Korn was the shit in the 90s. They definitely need to throw in the towel before Jon becomes Axl Rose. I like System a little too. They're different, but crazy haha. Nu Metal pretty lame now though. Not much good came from it in my opinion. Just people who think they can play heavy by dropping their guitars so low. Some can do it, but most can't!

I can't take Serj's voice... the band would be so much better if they got a guy who doesn't sound like "Bobcat" Goldthwait when he sings.

yes, but they have gone way downhill....those last 2 albums straight sucked overall. but the first 2 were great, especially toxicity, that was a really tight album

    .

the singing does it for me too. all that fucking middle eastern moaning is just terrible.

I liked their self-titled, Toxicity, and Steal This Album, but Mesmorize/Hypnotize was a huge load of crap.

  • Wow, seems to be a lot of hate for these guys. The first self-titled album is absolutely incredible. Anything after that I like, but don't love. I can't stand Daron's voice, the more he sang, the worse the songs got. I like Serj's voice but his solo stuff... Not so much.

SOAD kicks serious ass. Their lyrics are as brutally hysterical as the insane riffing. What other metal band gives you a little Armenian influence in their sound as well?

I agree.. Look beyond the silliness and there's a lot of musical intelligence, knowledge of Armenian folk music and a huge dose of both political and social commentary and satire.

Absolutely. Artists that I have always been drawn to are the ones who can make me laugh while stoking my social outrage.

    That would be Deftones.
  • Seen 'em three times and personally I think they went down hill after Toxicity. However, that and the first album are great for singing along while doing your housework. :)
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

The Deftone's are great... just a shame they're shite live.
