    One of my favorites....Electro Shock Blues is one of the best albums of the 1990's. E, in my opinion, is as good a songwriter and musician as Beck but without all the accolades even though he deserves them. A total original.
    Once in a while you can get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

    Blinking Lights was very ambitious but not ambitious to the point it was self indulgent. It was one of my favorite albums of last year and I think there was more than enough really good material on it to justify it being a double album.
    Once in a while you can get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

    Glad it was left as a double, lots of variety and you always make your own playlists anyway...

    i have electro-shock blues and beautiful freak, esb is the better of the two in my opinion.

    i agree with whoever compared e to beck.

    oh and for the original poster- yes, the eels have great lyrics.

    I only have ESB and I love it. It's so great.

    I have one problem with E's songwriting though - he is constantly ruining beautiful songs with bad language. Take "Emily on the Bathroom Floor" and "Climbing Up to the Moon" for instance. The first song is so sad, and then he goes "my life is shit and piss". It is just totally awkward.

    In "Climbing" he goes, "Got a sky that looks like heaven, got an earth that looks like shit" - come on E. Couldn't you have picked a better word?

    I was introduced to the Eels this past year by a friend of mine. While I have yet to give it a serious listen, I have dug what I have heard so far. Good stuff! I dig!
