OLP is done, been on the crap downhill slide since the Gravity album.....

Last album wasn't that bad, a bit soft, but lyrically it's very good, and it does have some good stuff like Angels/Losing/Sleep on it. I don't care anyway, next album's gonna rock like a mutha, I can feel it in my bones!!

Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

coming from a Canadian this translates as a mediocre one hit wonder band.
c'mon though seriously, other than Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and maybe alanis who else is there...you can have Avril Lavigne and Nickelback back.

Come on man....don't make me break out my list of current bands from Canada that PROVE our music scene kicks the crap out of the rest of the worlds :)

Bruce Cockburn is an absolute treasure.

Certainly one of Canada's best singer songwriter guitar players.

Besides for Neil Young and The Guess Who, I cant think of anybody decent besides a few one hit wonders. Dont say Rush is good either, those screeching women vocals are absolutely dreadful.

You said all you can think of is "one hit wonders", one hit wonders generally come from pop spewing record stations and MTV or in Canada Muchmusic.

  • Just give them a listen. I don't expect everyone to like them. They are really good though and you can hear many influences in their worst whale bandspace catalogue of songs.

And one of our best guitar players. Tons of perfect albums, another twelve or thirteen really good ones. Bad call to the one who left him off the canadian talent list in tis thread.

Check out any of Salt Sun and Time, Sunwheel Dance, In The Falling Dark, Night Vision, S/T, Joy will find a Way and High Winds White Sky as amazing albums, as good as music gets in my opinion. World class, but also so good to hear in the true north.

His instrumental album out recently was none too shabby either. Hes always on tour.

Same with the prolific Gordon Lightfoot, who influenced Dylan, Neil and countless others. He must have over a hundred really good songs, and hes a master of apparently effortlessly producing original melodies. some of pearl jam listen to gord, now please play a cover!

i just wanted to let everyone know of an amazing young band in Niagara Falls, Ontario. They are The Worst Whale and they are making music with urgency and mathematical precision. They will blow your mind. I saw them last night for the first time and I felt like it was a gift to hear them in a small room. They will be known very soon.

They are on bandspace.com. Very down to earth, genuine people who are making moving music.

    Hope you enjoy.

I personally really like their sound,,,thanks....love listening to new bands

I Mother Earth's first two albums from the early-mid 90's are superb. Then they got a new vocalist and I never bothered listening to the rest of their stuff.

I bet a lot of people on here would like them if they haven't listened yet.
It's a town full of losers and I'm pulling out of here to win
  • I seem to remember some of my Canadian friends liking a band called the Tea Party and I remember liking them. Not sure if they were Canadian though... the band, not my friends.

    yep, they were canucks.
The only problem with that band was that Jeff Martin thought he
    was Jim Morrison.

If you want to hear some great rock then listen to Max Webster.
Kim Mitchell is one THE most underrated geetarists ever.

the band is another example of amazing music that was nurtured in Canada. Not to mention Levon Helm still hosts barn parties to this day!
