Post your dedications and share love for Neil Young, a living legend. Ed also coined the phrase, 'Uncle Neil' ;)

    On The Beach (the song and the album) are favorites here in Womelsdorf, PA.
  • I wonder if people who love "On The Beach" have heard the rest of Neil's albums, because it's easily one of his weakest. "Time Fades Away" is so much better.

    WHAT?!?!? 'On The Beach' is a masterpiece. Even Neil Young hates 'Time Fades Away'
    'Rust Never Sleeps' managed to influence to different generations of musicians - that's testament enough to how good the man is
    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

    “Put yer good money on the sunrise”
    (Tim Rogers)
  • Who cares what Neil thinks? He's wrong. "Time Fades Away" kicks all sorts of ass. Neil's a big cryababy about that period of his career, and he doesn't want the album out on CD. He almost pulled "On The Beach" too but eventually he let it out.
  • very few people i admire more...

    let me count the ways...

    he has never sold out ever. He refused to be filmed during the Woodstock festival. And when grunge was in full force for the 25 anniversary of Woodstock, neil turned down a million dollar offer to headline.

    He has spoken his mind and infused politics into his work, even if that meant upsetting people. from Southern Man, to his reagan loving period, to his Rockin in the free world phase, to his pro patriot act phase to his pro war in afghanistan, to his most recent scathing indictments of the war criminals that are running this country.

    He makes records for arts sake. He doesnt give a damn about money. He was even sued by his own record company for not making "neil young" sounding records.

    He takes chances. He nearly dies and loses his father all in the same year. Instead of making a feedback heavy rock album he makes a folk and country album. Or he makes an entire record of feedback as he did in the 90's. Or the infamous 1980's trans phase.

    Its impossible to list everything he has done. His importance is incalculable.

    He is a hero.
  • on the beach is one of his best. It accurately captures the end of 60's idealism better than any other piece of art created, save Late for the Sky
  • Let's just agree to disagree about "On The Beach". I like ALL of Neil's albums, even the bad late-80's ones.
