Do you have the same problem I had at first?
Oh ... that's right you don't know what it was.
I had an album with Bob covers and a book with lyrics, I couldn't stand his voice. But then I heard the early Dylan and his voice was way better than at MTV unplugged. I love Dylan now, that is I love him up to the mid '70.

    huh? i'm confused...

i love dylan past and present. i could care less if he now plays keyboards, instead of the guitar, and could care less if his singing voice isn't spot on these dayz.

i love the fact that he changes up the songs he sings ALL the time in concert. pure genius, imho...in fact, it's so crazy that sometimes i don't recognize the song until he's 1/2 way through it! it takes a special kind to keep it real like that...makes me still a beleiver

Well you put down all these cover versions of Dylan songs so I figured you liked his writing, but not him performing them.

But I guess there is another explanation for it then.

Anyway Dylan rules. And I to am a believer, but unlike you I don´t go past Desire.

Lets see, according to iTunes play counts its:

    1) Love Minus Zero/No Limit
    2) Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest
    3) Absolutely Sweet Marie
    4) Queen Jane Approximately
    5) Cold Iron Bounds

Special mention goes to The Bands version of I Shall Be Released. The vocals are heartbreaking on that one. Actually came up at number 3, but I pulled it since it was the bands version.

Without relying on the iTunes tracks, I'd say:

    New Morning
    Jokerman
    Ring Them Bells
One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later)
    Highway 61
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Only 5?? I may have to add more
    In no particular order:
    The Hurricane
    Positively 4rth street
A hard rains a gonna fall
    drifter's escape
Sarah (one of the most heartfelt love songs I have ever heard, pure brilliance).
Tweeter and the monkey man (It's a wilbury song, I know, but it's the shit. I love this song.... one of Dylan's best.

i just put down cover tunes as a different response to the thread...i suppose just to make a point that i LOVE hearing dylan covers. in all honesty those songs are probably not my all time dylan-sung faves. the real problem at hand is just picking 5 tunes that i love...impossible :)

there's no doubt i love his writing and in general i just love everything about him. sure he gets slagged for his vocals, as of late but my feeling is that if you are only judging him on his vocals of today then you are missing the REAL points

his desire/ability to change up the song to fit the day is absolutely brilliant

if you don't go past desire then i'd still say we have more in common that not

i still stand behind TOOM. i cherish that cd

Dylan and the Foo Fighters Halloween nite Madison, Wisconsin. I might check that out. I've seen Dylan 3 times. Its not the same of course from his early days. But he has a great band and its cool to be in the same room with him.
