I am looking for an album that is just as great as Spiderland, Misery is a butterfly and Angels and deamons at play. It doesn't have to sound the same. It just has to be equally pure and beautiful.

Any suggestions will be nice to hear/read. Thanks.

check out The Black Rider by Tom Waits.

    it's his overlooked masterpiece, imo

hmmmmmm. The first thing that comes to my mind is Dirty Three's "Whatever You Love, You Are." They're a three-piece instrumental band with a violin, guitar and drums. The music is very ethereal and mesmerizing.

That could be great, and I will look into it, but I was searching for something with lyric's. I have a lot of Mogwai, Explosions and that sort of stuff, I figure that The band you suggested falls into that catogory.

    Thanks.

have you heard any of Will Oldham's stuff? He's used a bunch of different names throughout his career such as Palace, Palace Music, Palace Brothers, and currently puts out music under the name Bonnie "Prince" Billy.

"I See a Darkness" is one of my top 5 favorite records ever. That's definitely an overlooked classic.

his new one is excellent as well.

the wheels in my brain are definately spinning. superdrag's 'in the valley of dying stars' comes to mind...i think all of their albums were great, even if they're only really known for the sucked out all the feeling song.

imperial teen's 'what is not to love' is another great album by another great band.

Oh yeah, "I See A Darkness" is also top five ever for me too. I'll go through phases with that album where I listen to it non-stop. It particularly grabbed me during my travels to central America. what an album!

I don't think it fits the 'underground' label anymore however....

Belle and Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister.

One of the greatest releases in the past decade.

It's not really a hidden secret anymore, but get Nick Drake's "Pink Moon".

Are there two bands with the same name? I have that album and I wouldn't say it is Spiderland to me, but it is pretty good. However I came across some stuff that I did know before and the first thing that came to mind was "What". Songs like Life's what you make it and Sucha shame, these are hardly underground. I can't really fit the two together. What's the story?
