and I feel a bit empty inside. Is anyone having problem, when listening to the work of the real Chris Cornell after having heard what he has now churned out?

It's pretty sad.

Yep, totally agree. I put on Down On The Upside earlier on and it made me sad, although at the same time its good to remind yourself of what the guy is actually capable of, and hopefully will come back to when he comes to his senses!

No because whatever he does now and in the future does not effect what he done in the past. If you dont like his new stuff so be it, just get over it and enjoy Soundgarden.

  • Scream actually makes me enjoy the old stuff more - it's reassuring to know that our love for Cornell isnt entirely misguided. And even if you can't stomach Cornell anymore, you've still got Ben, Matt and Kim to enjoy.
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

Badmotorfinger is a great record, don't matter shit what he does or doesn't do now.
Personally I haven't heard the latest solo stuff, I am a huge fan of the first solo album though, Euphoria Morning. It's a cracking album, if quite left field compared to the Soundgarden stuff.

    Badmotorfinger = Greatness :)

    Do you hear a cow....?....A rooster says..............:D

I totally agree that his new stuff isn't good, at least what I've heard so far, but when I listened to Superunknown I just loved every second. I think Chris at the moment is just exploring new territory. It's just a record, you can still listen to the old stuff, and you never know, soon maybe something really mindblowing will be produced by him again.

I've always felt that Badmotorfinger could have been better becuase the prodiction is pretty bad.

    Producer(s?)/Mixers for Superunknown + Badmotorfinger = genius

Mind you it's still an outstanding album. No matter what you think of Cornell now, only a few bands had such a great run like Soundgarden did.

Yes. Listening to his old work just make sad now...

Me too! BMF songs sounded so much better when played live! I wish they would remix BMF...

This is still my favorite album of all time. Has been for sixteen years. I listen to it all the time still.

When I first heard that Cornell snippet from that Verizon commercial, I threw BMF on and just chain smoked. I've had my fears, doubts, etc. since I first heard about this new shit with Timbaland. They call it a collaboration, but somehow I knew there wouldn't be much signature Cornell involved. Its fucking depressing. As cliche as it sounds, the music of Soundgarden (and Pearl Jam) helped save my life as a teenager. To hear Cornell going this way...
I am lost, I'm no guide. But I'm by your side...

  • No problem.

What I really miss is that Cornell and his peers used to be at the edge of muscial innovation. Soundgarden set the bar, they were innovative, creative and uncomprimising in their musical standards. You only have to look at their B-side collection to realise how high they set the bar. And now this from their chief songwriter? He really is very far behind that 'cutting edge' and that makes me sad. I used to expect greatness from this guy and now it embarasses me to call myself a fan.

But Soundgarden....will always be fucking cool :)
  • I wish people would shut the fuck up about this album...

Nobody stays 'at the edge' forever, it's not poss.
I loved Soundgarden for 3 or 4 albums (first 2 were a bit on and off for me) but Cornell has to move on, the important thing for any artist is that they do what they believe in, and hopefully he really believes in what he's doing now....wether or not anyone likes it is irrelevant, it's the belief in it by the artist that is key.

If Chris is really into his new stuff, than that's fine by me. I'll make my own mind up wether I'm into it, but I'd rather him do something he really believes in. A Soundgarden / Audioslave reunion would be the best commercial opportunity for him now, which makes me think that rightly or wrongly, he must really be into this Timbaland stuff.

  • What happened to the rockin' chris cornell band that he had that played soundgarden/audioslave and solo tunes?

    they were pretty cool.

Even carry on is better than that new "long gone" garbage. The only solo work I like from him is Euphoria Morning. Cant Change Me is a great song.

Cornell is committing career suicide...I think possibly he's forgotten what really got him to where he is now, and that was taking his time, and making decent music..

Soundgarden wasn't about being a designer wearing, R&B pretty boy.

I miss the true Cornell, the 'Far Beyond The Wheel" Cornell,
    and the 'Rusty Cage' Cornell...

better yet, bring back Soundgarden...a reunion tour won't hurt
    7/2/06 - Denver, CO
    6/12/08 - Tampa, FL
    8/23/09 - Chicago, IL
9/28/09 - Salt Lake City, UT (11 years too long!!!)
    9/03/11 - East Troy, WI - PJ20 - Night 1
    9/04/11 - East Troy, WI - PJ20 - Night 2
  • I love Soundgarden and I liked Audioslave but let the guy move on. It's his choice with what he does and what he has done since SG.

He is on tour with them at the minuite.

    They also put an album out of their own;

I still rate his voice more than any singer. And his gig in London last year was fantastic. We have his last solo effort and it's ok, but Euphoria Morning is from the heart, and I'm not sure so much about this. (Don't know anything about the Timbaland stuff - bit behind the times on my music news.)
Thing is, when you give up the tortured artist stuff, and the drugs, and start having babies, it's going to be hard to produce that real gut wrenching stuff like you used to. Like I said in my thread below about Matchbox Twenty, priorities change and you tend to get happier and less navel gazing. Perhaps he's got the same affliction.
