I got the new Audioslave album today and it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect from AS. It rocks hard and Chris is still comparing himself to a dog. It's pretty solid through and through, though the lyrics to "Moth" made me laugh out loud when I heard them. I'll have to give it a few more listens to pick my favourites but I'm quite happy with it. I'm looking forward to watch the dvd when I get home. It has a mini documentary by the same guy who did that one for Pearl Jam.

Mate, what happened in Dublin? I can't believe you were let down. Have you had any contact with him/her since?

I'm really into the Muse album right now. It's brilliant.

It's OK. Better than Out of Exile, not as good as the debut. Some songs are pretty good but nothing is a must-listen, unfortunately.

Nope. I haven't even gotten an apology. I've not written because of the old if you can't say something nice adage.

    This made me laugh :)
    Matt Cameron is awesome.
  • Having just about digested the album, I'd say it's fairly good in parts. In fact, I'd saw Wide Awake could be their best song to date, Cornell's voice hasn't sounded as good in ages. That said, their are a few songs I'm not so keen on like Broken City and Jewel of the summer time.

The thing is with Audioslave, they are what they are. A solid hard-rock band who lean heavily towards the classic-rock blueprint. I can understand why people feel disappointed in them, after the the high standards they set with their previous bands, but realistically I don't see any other 'new' genre they could come up with. To me they are just a decent hard rocking mainstream band, nothing more nothing less. They are light years ahead of Nickelback, Staind and all their other mainstream contemporaries. I know some people will say that means shit all, but to me there is nothing wrong with some mainstream pop type music as long as it's dispatched with a degree of passion and authenticity, and I don't think anyone can seriously accuse the band members of not having either. AND Audioslave have produced some very good music, Cochise, Shadow on the sun, Like a stone, #1 Zero, Wide Awake and Until we fall, are among the best stuff any of them have produced, which is what bugs me when people say EVERYTHING they do is shit.

My honest thoughts are that if Cornell's next solo album does well, Audioslave will most likely end, and the RATM members will probably reform RATM. At the end of the day, we all know Cornell is capable of far more sophisticated music, and his credibility among critics and fans has some what suffered since he's been in AS. Either way, I'm more than happy he's doing the solo album, and I find Revelations an enjoyable listen, even if it's not a classic.

  • I think it's their most solid, consistant attempt yet the first two seem disjointed in parts to me as if they lose their flow, where as this one feels like it has a coherant cosistancy throughout. I enjoyed it.:)

  • Some songs are great but mostly I think it's just okay. Not terrible by any means, but nothing special.

    It's worth a download.

  • I think Moth, Revelations, and Wide Awake are great. I think the rest is not worth listening to again.

Yeah I don't really have a desire to listen to it again, esp. considering all the great music i've gotten recently, but I'll probably end up throwing some of the highlights (the one's you listed + a few more maybe) on an mp3 player every now and then.

I agree with this for the most part, but would like to add that Audioslave probably made a lot of people interested in both RATM and SG. It's easy for us to have an opinion about Audioslave having been familiar with their earlier works...but there are people out there who are likely getting their first shot at music made by these guys TODAY...not 5-10 years ago.

In that regard it's kinda cool, though I've never been able to understand what Cornell is doing in Audioslave besides having a good time and rocking out to tens of thousands of fans. He's always struck me as the kind of artist that wanted more than that out of his music.
  • I cant believe some you, the 1st Audioslave is a classic. Out of exile isnt a classic but stil a solid album. Revelations is a great cd, voice is in fine form. Some people on here compare them to staind or nickleback, get real. Like morello or not he has more talent, then anyone from nickelback or staind. Cornell is 1 of the best ever appreicate him.

I wasn't comparing them to Staind or Nickelback, I was saying that those bands are their contemporaries, and that when you take that into view, AS are far, far better. Audioslave are undoubtedly a far more commercial band than either RATM or Soundgarden, I don't think there is anything wrong with this, just pointing out that they are a more straightforward rock band.

Yeah, but Audioslave is a pretty weak band when you consider WHO is in that band. Those guys are capable of so much more...yet they phone it in album after album. That is the big let down for me...not that they aren't good at what they do...just that what they do is WAY beneath their talent and abilities.

As a listener, it's almost insulting. It's like being over at their rehearsal space, and listening to them make fun of modern radio by busting out cheesy music..only they're serious, and people are buying it.
  • I pretty much agree with both the points made in the last few posts.

just thought i'd chime in my agreement :)

  • I REALLY like Wide Awake.... And Sound of a Gun appeals to me, even though feels like its recycling an old riff for some reason. Otherwise, the album is an improvement over Out of Exile, but I don't think it measures up to most of the other great albums put out this year.
