"No, I'm not part of the current Smashing Pumpkins album or tour, I haven't spoken to Billy (Corgan) in years," Iha told Rolling Stone.

Damn, Corgan could have at least tried to actually get The Smashing Pumpkins back together.

So...when Billy said he wanted his band back...he meant the band name.

I think what he meant was the ticket prices and booking fees of The Smashing Pumpkins, not the actual band itself.

Wouldn't that be funny if this was all a lie (on Iha's part) to shake off fanboys?

    *fingers crossed*

Hey the shows will still rock though. One of my favorite bands the Toadies reunite every so often for a few shows every once in awhile, and they only have 2 original members. Vaden Todd Lewis, and Mark Rezceneick. Although Clark did actually record one album though so not sure if he counts as an actual member?? Bu, bands change line ups constantly so Bottom line: The show this year kicked ass, as did the one last year. For you pumpkin fans, I'm sure you will have a great time.

In their defense I can remember the Pumpkins last tour being pretty damn cheap. In fact, I paid right around 30 dollars, which is more than decent for a big band playing small venues...

But Zwan sucked and the solo record sucked worse. So yeah.

The Sounds are actually on James' label, Scratchie Records.

the line up may not be the same, but it hasn't been the same since Darcy bowed out, and, Chamberlain was kicked out for an album and tour, but later was invited back after amends were made. The die hard pumpkin fans will buy tickets regardless, as will the casual fan who doesn't know the history of the band member line up. You are going to see your favorite band play together once again. The second today, cherub rock, 1979,... and more ect start getting played, an amazing exciting feeling will surge through you. The shows are going to SELL OUT no matter who is in the band, and will give a younger generation of fans the opportunity to see the Pumpkins if they never have before, because of being too young, parents wouldn't take you... whatever. Corgan finally realized what his fans have always known: Pumpkins are greatness... so they are back. Even if the album bombs, the shows will more than make up for it for die hard pumpkins fans.

I agree. As much as I love James, he was pretty much eye candy and comic relief at shows. D'arcy, well anybody could replace her, like Melissa auf der Maur (she'll most likely be on bass :)).

What people aren't getting (the ones sore about the reunion that is) is that Billy and Jimmy ARE the Pumpkins. Of course you can throw at me that they were both in Zwan, but that album isn't that bad, and they wanted to form something non-Pumpkins so of course it would be very different.

    SP '07!

Exactly. I was just about to type almost these exact thoughts.

Billy is great at what he does, (some thing excepted)... and Jimmy is one of the best drummers that anyone is going to find to play their style of music.

So yeah, it wouldn't matter who was in the band, the only person that can make or break this is Billy Corgan.

  • Wonder why it took so long for him to say this. The rumor about the reunion has gone on for what seems like over a year now. Guess it really doesn't matter.
