I first saw them as a support band in 1988 at Brixton Academy in London. I was in the front row and I didn't know who they were until I asked someone behind me afterwards. They were unbelievable. I saw them again 4 times after that.
I love Janes Addiction live! Their studio albums are good, but I really think they are meant to be seen live. I just wish their sets were longer and they drew more from Strays, but they are amazing live. Incredible show. Navarro, and Perkins are amazing musicians and Jane's just blends so well together live with Perry's vocals and he is a great frontman. I feel so blessed to have seen Perry come out and sing "mountain song" with pearl jam at ACL that was beyond awesome.
Just put it on right now- headphones w a bud light w lime!
Hamstrings are cramping like a sob: a massive ride today up one of the local mountains. I thought I was in shape. I'm not. I actually got cranky as we neared the top. I needed a snickers.
In my mind, I always think of them as 'the mighty' Janes Addiction, beacause they always seemed so much larger than life. The music & lyrics were so unbelievable. They'll always be one of my top ten bands.
So I am on a huge Jane’s Addiction kick right now and I was curious what other bands people here might recommend that are similar and possibly a bit less known?

Listening to Nothing Shocking and how the hell did that come out in 1988 with the state of what was going on in music. Hair metal and cheese rock clogging up the works and JA put out Nothing Shocking. Right around the time of GnRs Appetite for Destruction.
Janes are pioneers and deserve as much credit as anyone as forebearers of what was about to come. In awe

@drakeheuer14 try TV on the Radio. Start with Dear Science, Return to Cookie Mountain, and Seeds

I'm assuming you are checking out Porno for Pyros already.

there was a side project of Jane's with Steve Issacs on vocals called The Panic Channel. They only released one album and one or two non-album singles but I dug it. was back in 2006 I think.
Comments
They did Nothing's Shocking in its entirety. Loved it. Navarro killed it- absolutely killed it.
Brooklyn Bowl is a truly amazing venue.

Still think back to it and crank up the album a ton. It's in the regular rotation with no signs of decline.

Seeing Perry at Lolla with the school of rock backing him was amazing
Janes is amazing, the band fits together so well...The pieces are unreal, and the sum is even better.
Love Navarro's work on the guitar
