Madrugada

Madrugada is an Norwegian band coming out of Oslo. The band recorded 5 albums, and the last album (Madrugada s/t) came out this year. It will be their last album, as their guitarist Robert Buras died last summer. But Robert Buras job was done on the new album, so they decided to finish the record and to release it.

Madrugada makes a warm, melancholic, dark music with calm and wilder moments. Influences on the band are REM, The Doors, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Tindersticks and Radiohead. :) Take a look at the youtube clips ;)

    Just put their debut on my wishlist. Expect feedback in 1-2 years. That list is LOOONG :)

    Probably the biggest rock band in our country. Not really a big fan, but Sivert Hoyem does have a great voice. A shame about Buraas, he was really one of the most important figures in Norwegian rock music

    Industrial Silence is one of my favorite records. The Deep End was also pretty good, although a bit weaker in my opinion. But brilliant songs like Sail Away and The Kids Are On High Street saves the record. Saw them a couple of years ago. The concert was released on dvd, but sadly the dvd doesn't show the terrific moments like Burås' solo on Sail Away. What I really loved about Madrugada was Burås and his guitar play, and of course the voice of Høyem.

    Burås will surely be missed. He was one of the greatest guitar players in Norway, that's for sure. I hope I can catch one of their concerts this summer, although it's without Robert.

    To be honest my fave is the new selftitled album of Madrugada. Really a great album. The last song doesn't really fit on the album, but when you know about Robert then it's also a bit special that you can hear him for the last time. Industrial Silence is great too, The Nightly Disease is very good. Grit is ok and The Deep is a bit better.

    Good to see that some people know them on this PJ forum, they deserve it :)

    I'm a Canadian and I love this band. I have all their albums and long for the day that Sivert will come to Canada for some sort of tour. Count yourself lucky that you got to see them live!! A Norwegian treasure for sure that the rest of the world should know about.
