A friend recently recommended Deftones to me and I'm wondering where I should start. I don't really see many threads about them on here so I don't know what the general feeling is about them. I am open to any and all opinions here. Are they good? Do they suck? Give me some feedback. Thanks in advance...
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

They are great. Start with Around the Fur or White Pony. If you are downloading individual songs, go with Be Quiet and Drive or Bored.

yeah, these guys are great... can be underrated sometimes because they came out during the nu-metal scene and were probably as responsible as korn for making this scene pretty huge. korn is to nirvana as deftones is to pearl jam... i guess you can look at it that way.

try mx... the last track on around the fur... try their b-sides and rarities as well... they cover the smiths, the cure, depeche mode, sade, helmet, even have a song with cypress hill. a great band.... i'm not entirely convinced from their last two albums though. just their first three. but mein on the last album is pretty good.

deftones should be the only well-respected band of the late 90's nu-metal scene

    minerva
    my own summer
    digital bath
    change
    root

    the bored

    mx
    street carp
    knife prty
    passenger
    good morning beautiful
    needles and pins

    White Pony!!

Around the fur is great, just like their latest Saturday Night Wrist

Most of their live performances are great. Sometimes, they have a day off - where everything fails...

    Nevertheless, great band.

Listen to the song Passenger. Maynard is featured in that song.

DEFTONES might be the last great art metal band on the planet... their albums kick major asses EVEN the last two as well, however their highlights were White Pony and Around The Fur. Chino might be the most underrated rock singer since Mike Patton, the only one who would deserve the same recognition!!! (His eclectic voice always gives me goosebumps!!!)
Saw them perform and it was as hot in the arena as in hell I guess.
Hopefully they don't break up for the next 25 years!!!

  • I love all their albums but i personally think White Pony is the best place to start as it is the most accessible.....

Also they are in a completely different league to the nu metal shit.....

I love all their albums but i actually think that i love their newest one the most. Chino Moreno has one of the most amazing voices ive ever heard. I dont really like much metal but Deftones are a fantastic band in my opinion. Started listening to them when i was 15 which is 8 years ago now, and still like them as much today. I have a live recording of theirs at London Docklands and when they play Korea i get goosebumps!!
People say im paranoid. Well, they dont say it, but i know that's what they are thinking.
