Thats rite folks which band do you think is better. When i say Van Halen i mean real Van Halen not Van Hagar. Although I love both bands id say Van Halen by a bit I think Eddie is the better guitar player, and Diadmond Dave is one of the best front men ever.

fan of both bands..but will lean more towards AC/DC
Bon Scott was a better frontman than Diamond Dave and not many can claim to be..Brian Johnson is awesome too...
Angus is just a riot too on stage...incredible how he can still rock that hard at his age nowadays.Angus and Malcolm are one of the best rock guitarist duos rock fans will ever see too.
only complain is AC/DC songs can sound abit too similar

    ...I salute you.

Hands down its AC/DC for me. Never really could get into Van Halen, regardless of who the frontman was.

Gotta be AC/DC. Van Halen are good for the "cheesy" tunes but for rock you need AC/DC

If we are only talking David Lee Roth... I'd have to say an even tie. If Hagar is included then AC/DC.

Really tough call. It's just tough to see what Roth Van Halen would've done had they had the longevity of AC/DC.

Van Hagar is not Van Halen.

tough call, as I love both bands......I am into Van Halen a little more!!
We need Pearl Jam in Atlanta!!! 2006-2007

The dirty south needs a fix.
  • When Van Halen with Dave was on top of their game, they were absolutey phenomenal, but I've always found the albums to be too inconsistent. AC/DC has a similar problem, but they benefit from a much more vast catalog. While I'd like to say Van Halen because I like their best tunes more than AC/DC's, I'll have to say AC/DC.

    Van Halen

If it were between AC/DC and (as Joe Dirt would say) Van Hagar...then it would be a different verdict.
  • to me VH is pop metal like Bon Jovi, Def Lepard, etc. but with a better guitarist and sometimes a better lead singer. AC/DC is simple but fun and good at high volumes, and their music lasts. I saw AC/DC once when they were 'new' as an opener at MSG - super loud, sliding all over the stage in leather kilts and knickers, Bon Scot screaming away.

AC/DC slays Van Halen as a rock band. As a show band if you're in to that thing sure Van Halen is great, Eddie started millions of little wankers playing guitar, and that's great. I love listening to Early Van Halen but........

AC/DC has never put out a song as completely and utterly gay as Jump and they never dabbled in the Keytar.

They also didn't replace thier lead singer with Sammy Hagar.

Every AC/DC song could be the same chord progression, but they got it so right there was no need to change.

Van Halen was great because of Ed's guitar innovation innovation and their revolutionary style, then they jumped the shark and turned sour, really really sour. That's why I give the not to the ozzies.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

    Thats a bold statement.
    Worse than, say Poison?
    Worse than say, Firehouse?
    Worse than say, Creed?

Worse than all the bands that we've never heard of?

I've seen both bands live and they were both great shows, technically Eddie is the better guitar player but from a performance perspective I would have to give the nod to AC/DC. Angus Young was a mad man on stage the guy just did not stop!!! Mind you this was many years ago and probably amphetamine induced, but the guy was just insane.

For a good Diamond David story check out my post in the strangest things at a concert thread.

A common mistake made when people judge them by a small handful of well-known singles and the reputation that precedes David Lee Roth. Dig a little deeper and, whether or not you like the music, you'll find that it's far from the pop metal of Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, etc.

  • In terms of complexity and originality, VH win. Have to admit that DLR is a bit of a tosser and Eddie is pretty arrogant, but the music's top draw. Good songs that get everybody movin'. Although the start of hot for teacher is the most cringeworthy thing in the world "Whats ourrrr teacherrrr gonnarrr look laaaak this yearrrrrr" etc.

AC/DC are basically the Rolling Stones with extra distortion. However, they are miles better than Van halen. So much more enjoyable and cheeseless.

Is none of the above an option?
  • Too close to tell. So, i'll decide going on this:

    1984 Vs. Back In Black

Obviously both very good albums, but I like 1984 as a whole better than BIB.

Van Halen is my choice, however it could go either way for me.
Whats got the whole world faking?

That is blasphemous and disrespectful at best. FUCK MAN, everybody knows that Van Halen ARE NOT the worst band of all time. Motley Crue worked hard and sucked harder then Van Halen could ever dream of. Sure Roth was a giant wanker and hagar was lame but VINCE FUCKING NEIL man you can't compare with that. I thought everybody knew the "crue" was the worst band ever, the only one that comes close is Madonna and she doesn't come that close

AC/DC is by far the better band, I cannot think of any van halen riffs that can even compare to any of AC/DC's

AC/DC! Bon had such a phenomenal voice and he had soo much more charisma then Sammy Haggar or David, Angus and Malcom are probably one of the best rock guitarists out there and AC/DC have been way more influencial then Van Halen!
With your bitch slap rappin' and your cocaine tongue you get nothing done!
  • for me, it's AC / DC ! :)
