One of my most surreal musical experiences ever was seeing the indie band The Connells at the Chestnut Cabaret in Philly in who knows what year, early 90s I think, and I was watching from the bar, venue half full, when later in the show this group of older guys, a few in sunglasses (it's like 11:00pm inside a club, but they've got sunglasses on) and a few had laminated passes.  It was obvious they were a band, but what was even funnier was how they looked around and seemed to be worried about being mobbed, when I'm pretty sure almost NO ONE knew who they were.  I didn't, but Ihad fun asking.  One guy came and stood next to me waiting to order a drink, and I leaned in and said very conspiratorially "So..... you all seem... to be... in a band.  What band?"  He looked left, he looked right, then he looked me over to see if he could trust me, and then he leaned in and whispered "Supertramp."  Me: "Oooooh, yeah, Supertramp, did you play tonight somewhere else?"  Him "Yes, the Spectrum."  So I just wished him well and ended the convo there, didn' twant him worried I'd scream "HEY EVERYBODY! SUPERTRAMP IS HERE!!!"

So they sat at a table or at the bar and it only took about 20 minutes for them to basically just invade the Connell's stage and take over and start jamming with them.  I don't think they did any Supertramp songs that I know, but a few years later I saw the Connells again and said to them before their set "Hey, remember when Supertramp crashed your show in Philly and took over your stage?"  And they were alll like "YES THAT WAS SO CRAZY!!!!! They wouldn't leave the stage!"

So yes, I liked Supertramp back in the day, but I can't say it was a bucket list thing to see them take over the Connells show, though it was absolutely memorable and a very funny story the next day ;)

Will always remind me of every summer trip to the Rockies as a kid in the 80s. My parents loved this band!
