Black Crowes Accoustic

I saw the Black Crowes play an accoustic set last nite in NYC... they played a very quaint 1,500 seat theater called Town Hall... I have seen the Crowes many times in many venue types, but this one was really special. I cannot say that i am as big a Black Crowes fan as i am a Pearl Jam fan, in fact i only knew a handful of songs they played last nite.... but the show was right up there on my list of killer shows. The accoustics were great, the crowd was as into it as any PJ show that i have seen. They played for 2 hours and just rocked out an accoustic set.

Kudos to the Crowes....

Jealous man, really wanted to go last night or tonight. Town Hall is a GREAT venue, one of the best in the city.

If I see that they play "Descending" tonight, I might cry.

I was just thinkin of this, on my drive home. It's always a smoke filled room at the Crowes

I have seen the Crowes 3x. Once on their last run, before the split in 01. They did some jammin, but kept the songs to pretty well album length. Caught them again, opening for Petty in 05(?). They blew his old balls away, and it had a little extra jammage. Seen them about a year ago this time. They jammed like crazy, even though Rich was hobbled by a bum ankle. Gorman was back on the skins, the way its gotta be.

I have only heard a few songs twice. I've heard them play Cant Ya Hear Me Knockin(Stones) and Don't Do It(Band). I have seen them play new songs, songs that were never released. Songs that they seemingly wrote on stage.

3 things have been the same at every show.

    1. Rich Robinsons facial expression
    2 the incense
    3. Chris Robinson is 10x more stoned than everybody else.

I wonder how it sounded with the new keyboardist, I saw the Crowes in August and really didn't like his take on Wiser Time. I might just be used to weird old Ed's way of doing it.
  • The Crowes are a band I've wanted so badly to get into, but I just can't. They're great musicians and great songwriters, and I enjoy most of their catalog, but I can't take them in large doses, and I don't understand why. I guess I'll just have to continue to be a "casual" fan of theirs. :(
