Anybody else agree? Tom Petty is one of the few artists out there that dont get progressively worse with each record. I think he has made all of his best records from the 90s to present.

yeah i'll agree....full moon fever up to highway companion is pretty fucking awesome IMO. The earlier stuff is great but I'd agree with you.

I think the earlier albums were more about hits. These ones are just about consistent good songs, not worried so much about what will be on the radio.

  • He never makes a bad album. Highway Companion is awesome.
  • echo just rocks. it might be my favorite tom petty album

people always claim jackson browne's I'm alive is the greatest break up album ever. it's got some catchy stuff, but petty's album is easier on the ears. I have to go with petty.
  • So many amazing songs on Echo, it's ridiculous. Definitely one of his best.
Using the word "methinks" in your message board posts doesn't make you look smart.

    Petty is amazing.

He's one of the greatest songwriters out there.

He always manages to write that massive hit.

    I loved Echo.

The Mudcrutch stuff is really cool too.

"Scare Easy" is quite possibly his best song in over a decade.
  • I don't get why people seem to talk bad about that album. I absolutely love it. Great songs. I wish he would play them live....
me you wouldn't recall, cause i'm not my former.

The reason it's one of the best breakup albums is because he was going through a divorce at the time he was writing it. He even calls it his breakup album on the "Runnin' Down A Dream" DVD. He did play some of them live, I saw "Billy The Kid" live once...Get the "High Grass Dogs: Live At The Fillmore" DVD, he plays quite a few of them on there.

no doubt my favourite petty album, that one one line in room at the top just kills me (for different reasons back then)

but yeah nothing beats 90's petty, wildflowers, she's the one ost, echo, dynomite
"ah fuck it get in trouble"
