Never read it anywhere and I am sure he wouldnt admit it but his music is definitely influenced by it, the drums, distorted guitars, and structures come straight from their music

  • I think he'd be man enough to freely admit that he respects Phil Collins and Genesis.

I'm thinking of miserable Brittish stuff like New Order, Pet Shop Boys etc.

Whether he was influenced by them or not, I can't stand Genesis (I think its in part due to Phil Collins' voice) and NIN is one of my favorite bands - they don't sound alike to me. Maybe there was some commonality but NIN diverged from it pretty quickly.

Genesis with Peter Gabriel on vocals, and Phil on drums was the best band ever.

NIN doesn't even come close. Sorry.

he may pick from certain things he may like about Genesis... for instance, they have produced some interesting rhythms and sounds. so they may one influence among many... but of course other influences are stronger

I disagree. Sorry. Just one of those opinion/taste things I guess :) For me, nothing I know of Genesis could beat something like Somewhat Damaged or the acoustic version of The Becoming. (And neither of those sound much like Genesis)
