Never really see anything mentioned about them. One of my favorite bands, Lucky Man is probably my favorite song of all time. Cant wait for the new stuff and hopefully a US tour sooner than later.

so much more than bittersweet symphony or urban hymns for that matter. i found that out when someone recommended i listen to a northern soul
    hear my name
    take a good look
    this could be the day
    hold my hand
    lie beside me
    i just need to say

seeing as how they already broke up, but Lucky Man is one of my faves.

    "Cuz I'm a lucky man
    with fire in my hand"

I love Urban Hymns. Haven't yet heard Northern, though. But I will, Cate.
    Feels Good Inc.
  • The Verve are great! Can't wait to hear the new album, hopefully they can produce something really good. My favourite album at the moment is A Northern Soul.

i liked their b-sides album more than northern soul... kinda rare. urban hymns is a flawless album though.

i was thrilled when i heard they were getting back together...can't wait to see what happens, though urban hymns was really one of those "going out at a high point" things..still, it should be good
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

  • I can't find The Verve EP anywhere at the moment, I only know one song from it and it's brilliant (A Man Called Sun). Does anyone else own this, is it worth buying and how does it compare with their other studio releases?

LoOking forward to some new music from the guys, been enjoying Richards solo albums, but they are nowhere near as good as The Verves first two records.

  • I like Richard Ashcroft as a solo artist as well. He's one of these guys that's so ugly but his talent makes him look more attractive. I meant that as a compliment... :D:o

I think i started a thread here the day i found out they were reforming, i love the verve. Think they are playing glasgow around the time of my birthday.

I hated Richard Ashcroft's solo stuff though i must say, i bought one of his albums and thought it was terrible. Hope The Verve's new stuff is a bit better.
People say im paranoid. Well, they dont say it, but i know that's what they are thinking.

Brilliant band. I've seen them a few times. I was at that gig at the old Newcastle Riverside, where Oasis were the support act, and Verve (no "The" in those days) suffered a power-cut during the set. That was probably one of the gigs that really started the ball rolling for Oasis in terms of their reputation.

I think the Verve EP is simular to 'A Storm In Heaven' in mood and production. If you like that album, you'll probably like the EP. Good stuff!

used to love "A Northern Soul" & "A Storm In Heaven", agree with stu gee bout the ashcroft solo albums though, maybe there is something too immediate about them
  • I'll be attending 5 of The Verve's gigs this year and cannot wait. I had only been able to see them once before but that was after McCabe left.

Thing thing about RA and his solo work is that he's got a massive ego and is lazy. He needs someone to challenge his songwriting and performance, which was never gonna happen from studio musicians.

Only a few more weeks until the first show...

Much preferred it over Urban Hymns, Storm In Heaven very good too. Dunno why but I'd find it hard to listen to them now.
