The Pixies?

Knowing all the music I do, I am somehow not too familiar with The Pixies. Did they have any hits or songs that get radio play? Anybody know where I could hear some samples? From what I have read about them, they seem like my kinda music.

their biggest single is 'here comes your man', which doesn't mean its their best song.

'where is my mind' became more popular after the movie 'fight club'

but they have a whole lotta great songs, my favorites being 'hey' and 'debaser'

Pretty much the entirety of Doolittle.

You;d be really hard pressed to find a bad song on that album. Debaser, Hey, Monkey Gone To Heaven, Wave Of Mutilation, and Gouge Away are all fantastic Surfer Rosa is real good too, but Pixies is totally where its at for me.

Yeah, You can't go wrong with Doolittle or Surfer Rosa. They also have 2 Best-of compilations available. Seriously, pick either one. You won't be dissappointed. They are an absolute home-run....they will rock your world :)

ditto on everthing. and i missed them last year because I stupidly thought the club shows were limited age. DUH. It's all ages now in this area, thank god.

the pixies were a very important band because even though they didn't get much play and the average listener didn't have an opportunity to hear them, they impacted other musicians in a big way.

Tell them you love them. Never let the mundane, the unimportant, or worse, the misunderstood, be the final words of parting.

    Tell them.

Get their greatest hits - Wave of Mutilation.

I was playing it in the car to work this morning, as it goes.

Pixies are the bees knees. I love the back to back "Gigantic" and "River Euphrates" on Surfer Rosa.

Fantastic movie. One of my faves. Check out other David Lynch films if you haven't already done so.

No where near as good as the Placebo one. But then again I am not a James Blunt fan at all.

Well, I won't go that far, but mister Molko is held in high regard in this house.

Pixies are awesome! best band ever drawing with pj, mr bungle and faith no more in my opinion.

I'd recomend you buy all the studio albums there are only 4 and they are all awesome in their own way. I cant find a pixies song I don't love and for such a quality band all the albums should be brought instead of a best of. I'd recomend getting Doolittle or Surfer Rosa first then Trompe Le Monde and Bossanova.

The "Death to the Pixies" compilation is pretty good if you're just getting into the Pixies, nice studio selections and a live CD. If you're already a fan I would recommend on getting "Pixies at the BBC" great compilation of tracks they recorded live at the BBC spanning several years.

I PERSONALLY recommend Bossanova, but that is just me. I am the odd ball picking that as my favorite album and one u should look into. But as a beginner, I would say either Death to the Pixies (best of that came out in 1997) and/or Doolittle.

Gigantic, Monkey Gone to Heaven, Here Comes Your Man, Where Is My Mind?...are the ones that come to mind, when it was a 'hit' during the 80s.:)
