Pearl Jam and Nirvana are the biggest influence on the other music that I listen to. Those bands got me interested in "grunge" all the way from the influences of the genre, to the early bands like Green River, to its downfall from the mainstream. Going to PJ concerts has also got me interested in other bands because of their choice of opening act.

I don't have 8 other bands that I can claim influenced the music that I listened to all that much. Perhaps I could list Led Zeppelin, as listening to them got me interested in other 60s/70s era rock bands, but I got into Zeppelin pretty much because of their influence on "grunge" music.

Faith No More (led me away from more conventional rock music)
Tupac Shakur (my introduction to hip-hop, way back when I was 8 or 9)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor (Redefined my perception of "guitar" music)
    Arvo Part
Big Black (Aesthetically and attitude-wise, the closest thing to a perfect band for me)
    Minor Threat (see above)
Wu-Tang Clan (Introduced me to east-coast 90s hip-hop, something I avoided as a Tupac fan when I was younger)
John Coltrane (My first jazz love)
Bob Dylan (First time I paid attention to lyrics)
Eric Dolphy (Led me to less traditional jazz)

PJ -- basically my starting point for the '90s and highly influential even still
Metallica -- made me a headbanger in junior high
Bad Religion -- has led to several punk stages for me
Eric Clapton -- Unplugged sent me in the direction of the blues for a long, long time (even made me turn my back on PJ for a minute)
BB King -- once in the blues I started with BB and branched out having liked what I heard a whole bunch
CCR -- I remember my daddy playing CCR records when I was just a kid, probably my first recollection of music, made pop's tunes cool for me
    The Doors -- ditto
Black Crowes -- strangely enough, TBC made me a full-fledged Otis Redding fan even though I already knew what a bad ass song Dock of the Bay is....from Otis I delved deep into soul music
Willie Nelson has been huge to me as the starting point for the country music I enjoy, but there just isn't much of it worth listening to...Waylon, Cash, Haggard, Jerry Jeff Walker
Run DMC -- i guess you could say influenced me greatly as a lad, leading me to Beastie Boys and, guess who, Aerosmith

Not exactly in order or well-explained, but I would say those are the ones that have led to me listening to the most other bands with similar sounds/styles to their own. I've always had starting points with the two having the most impact being PJ and Clapton I believe
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all

    Pearl Jam (obviously)

NIN (at the time, I'd heard nothing else like it and it amazed me)

Husker Du (Bob Mould and Grant Hart made music magic for me)

Mr. Bungle (Disco Volante forever changed the way I hear music)

Slayer (I learned to appreciate the finer points of REAL metal music)

Duran Duran (The soundtrack to my Jr. High years)

Faith No More (The Real Thing single handedly lifted me up and pulled me out of hair metal band hell)

Led Zeppelin (the best hard rock foundation you could ask for)

    The Cure
    R.E.M.
(I hated these bands in High School, it wasn't until I got to college that I realized the beauty in their music...)

I credit FNM and NIN for starting me on the path to truly opening my mind to different types of music. I'd never have listened to Mr. Bungle, Ministry, The Butthole Surfers, Primus, Pantera, and hundreds of other bands if it weren't for those two.

Pearl Jam is really the only one who has caused me to explore classic rock...like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, the Doors, the Who, and the Clash. They still make me explore, each time I hear a cover, I want to hear the original...and then the best of....and so on.
